Questions that a current (or previous) student would know the answers to.....

My D will be a freshman at W&L this fall. There are things that I know she will figure out in due time, however, I need to know things and I don’t wait well :wink:
So, I was wondering…

  1. is there an ATM on campus? If so, is there a fee?
  2. is it necessary to rent a P.O.Box? How much snail mail does one get these days anyway?
  3. She got her room assignment: 3rd floor/Graham-Lees/double,corner room. It’s all the way down the corridor, in the corner. Is that good/bad/makes no difference???
  4. Do kids do any ride/shares? We live in NE PA and cannot believe that an airport, bus station, and train station are at least an hour away! Or does the school transport to these places for breaks?
  5. Do a lot of kids support the athletic dept? Does everyone go to the games?
  6. any tips for move-in day?

Gosh - I’m sure I have more questions but my brain needs more caffeine!

Hey! Congrats on your D!
To answer a few of your questions:

1)Yes and that depends on your bank.
2)I have one and I think it’s useless
4)The school rarely provides transportation, but rides are very common
5)Attendance to games is very small. The school is just not very into its sports/
6)Enjoy yourself! It’s a fun experience.

@collegeboy1997 thank you for your reply! I appreciate your answers. I’m sad to hear that the school doesn’t enjoy watching/cheering for their sports but oh, well. :slight_smile:

My son says:

  • People go to the games (may not stay for the whole thing) but go especially if they have friends playing etc.
  • Has never had a problem getting to Roanoke to catch his flight or return pick-up (everyone wants an excuse for Starbucks and Chipotle)
  • Didn’t want a PO Box because then we have to send packages which the school accepts - he gets a message saying there is a package at the mail room - so exciting:)
  • Move-in day was hotter than heck. The school had it very organized with lots of help etc. Don’t forget extension cord,
    3M sticky hangers and 3M hooks (for towels, bathrobe) all that kinda stuff to put the room together. Request to get your bed lofted first thing if you are interested. The crew working there got it done quickly. Then they had to come back and lower it a bit because he is 6’4" and hit the ceiling lol
  • Go to everything to make friends it is a very fun place!

@Toolee awesome! Thanks for the tips! I think that we will forego the po box. And glad to hear that they go to some games. This is all happening so quickly :confused:
