im a junior in high school, working hard on my portfolio, but im freaking out because from what ive researched, it is almost impossible to get in to. i have a couple of questions. ive heard that at cooper union they like to see a certain style and a variety of mediums - how true is that? also i would like to know ideally how many pieces should be in a portfolio? how should it be presented (lately cd's seem to be popular)? are they looking more at the conceptual work put in a piece or the quality? how important are the responses to the questionnaire? did you go there or did you chose a different college (if so why)?
back in the day my art teacher applied to cooper and didnt get in. from what he is telling me about what kind of artists cooper union is looking for, in my head i created an image of a mad scientist-like art machine that creates art all the time with breaks for school, eating and sleep. i understand this is a bit exaggerated, but from YOUR experience what can YOU tell me about the work ethic of a person they are looking for? i know i should be drawing every day at least a little bit, but i have extra curricular activities that take up some of my time and most days i end up not drawing at all. however on the weekends a go to a studio and spend an entire day working there. is this enough? does cooper count in the extra curricular stuff, or do they want to see someone who is fully committed to art? also how much do they look at the persons background? and finally, if any of you have an online portfolio, i would like to take a look, if its ok with you.
i know this is a lot, but i would very much appreciate if you answered all of it thoroughly. cooper union is a perfect place for me, i might as well call it my american dream. i would like to advance in any way possible, so im trying to find real people who got accepted so i can get some insight and see what i have to work on. thank you.

hey
im not cooper union student but i applied this year and god waiting list
i went in portfolio day in cooper union where they organize in a year so you can go there and get lots of suggestions from faculty and could show your portfolios to the faculty member
from your questions…i can simply say if you are dedicated in art and the cooper union look fresh and its conceptual art college where u are not supposed to go there if you want to refine your art quality but ideas and concept stands higher there…etc…

your extra curricular may help you little bit but they choose student entirely from home test and portfolios (75%) and remaining from your gpa scores recommendations extra curricular persons background …etc…

you can see the live journal where there are many cooper union students posting their portfolios and hometest…
