I'm a rising senior and I'm decided whether to apply to Davidson.

I want to apply to atleast one LAC to give me some options and I'm looking in the NC to NJ east coast range and plan to major in biology. Davidson is one of the few attractive LACs I could find in this range (if any other names pop into your head please tell me)

My hang-ups are 1) Frat dominated? idk i don't particularly love the idea of a frat dominated school and I don't really see myself joining one, wkthough I haven't necessarily ruled it out. it seems like it would be even more overwhelming at a small school 2) Spiritual? big part of the school? im not that spiritual, philosophical perhaps 3) isolated? does that get annoying

So thats pretty much it. Thanks for any answers or perhaps suggestions for other LACs (I'm having trouble finding the perect one)

BTW schools I'm definitely applying to: Duke, UNC, UVA, Wake, Maryland, TCNJ

I dont think Davidson is frat dominated since all of the frats are merely eating houses and all parties are open to the entire campus...plus joining a Davidson frat is almost as easy as signing your name to a piece of paper (ie not a big deal)

Davidson can be a spiritual as you want it to be...church service is not mandatory like at some other schools, and there are plenty of people who consider themselves to be in the same boat as yourself...Davidson doesn't really have the Christian school feel other than the fact that it has high moral standards - but that really isnt a spiritual thing either, more of an integrity thing.

Good luck with your search!

Roughly 40% of the male undergrads join a fraternity. This is a very reasonable figure- in comparison, the figure is 50% at MIT.

Davidson is not all isolated. Charlotte is not very far away (I'm about 10 min from Davidson), and the university/Huntersville area is growing very fast. Concord Mills, a major shopping mall, is quite close.
