Quick Application Question

Quick question from a high school junior:

I played fooball/swam on the teams all 3 years (will be 4 after senior year)
and did community service for 3 years (and, again, will be 4 after my senior year).

In my application, is it ok for me to say that I've done these things for 4 years?
If I apply in the fall (football season) would I say that I've done football for 4 years, but swimming for 3?

Thanks in advance

You will usually have a place to list your senior year activities and sports. Different applications are set up differently. Don’t start worrying about it already. You have a whole summer to enjoy. Senior year and apps will be here soon enough. Chill.

Some apps have different sections or a check box to use for each grade level.

If not, just go ahead and say four.

I have a question about extracurricular activities. I have a lot more important ECs than there are spaces on college applications. What am I supposed to do about this? Sorry if the answer is obvious, I’m only a sophomore so I’m not really familiar with it.

I’d say 4 is fine. That’s how I filled out my apps. On the common app it just had checkboxes, so that simplifies it aloit.

Say you’ve done 4 years of the fall sports. Say you’ve done 3 years of the winter/spring sports and then mention your plans to continue during senior year, in the additional information section of your application.

I said 4 years even though I hadn’t actually completed that 4th year. It’s fine.

It depends on how the application is phrased. If it asks for years, only add the number of seasons you have a) played b) are currently playing in.

Of course, many applications just ask you to list the years. In that case, feel free to fill in “12” for spring sports too.

Download a copy of the Common App. Do yourself a favor and start working on the activity list. Next year’s Common App will be available in July, but the activity list probably won’t change. Do yourself another favor and work on your applications and essays this summer - you will have little or no time your senior year. Especially with football season.
