My common app essay was a biography, comparing my life to a canvas, and ending with a request to finish the canvas that is my life.

My brown essay was about insanity (intellectual vitality one) , I wrote how everyone has a quality that makes them a bit insane, so the term really shouldn't exist.

If you wanna read my essays Ill send, I actually applied because I got an email with an application waiver, and needless to say I kinda liked the school alot as I read its viewbook.

it is a reach b/c of your sat scores, but your ACT score should help, other than that your stats are good. your essays sound creative, that’s probably your best chance for admission. good luck!

Would love to read your essay, I think the essay is a very important part of the application process, go ahead and PM me the insanity one. Thanks.

I’m in exactly the same boat as you. I applied ED to brown (my dream school!) with a 26 ACT and 12% (now 11%) in my class. The low class rank is due to mostly B’s my freshman year…but since then, I have been getting A’s. Anyway, I was deferred to regular decision so I will find out at the end of March…I am really hoping for a miracle! But I did have some pretty unique extracurriculars (i.e. wrote a legislative bill thats currently under review) and I have a lot of community and volunteer work. Plus, I wrote my essays about my background and how I am different since I know Brown loves diversity, as do I. But yeah - moral of the story: i was deferred before some kids who had ACT scores above 30…so I definitely think that Brown takes a more holistic approach when deciding who to accept/reject. Nevertheless, I do know that test score and class rank do serve some importance.

Btw…I HATE the ACT/SAT as well! I think it is so stupid and doesn’t measure work ethic or anything like that. That can only be measured by one’s transcript! However, I am also biased in my opinion since the ACT is really the one thing that is really holding me back.

I hate to say this to you, but your test scores are low for Brown. Your ECs, though they would be AMAZING for almost any school, are average for Brown. I would say that it’s a high reach.
