Quick opinion questions for all of you currently in college?

What school do you attend?

Do you like it?

Do people with different ethnic backgrounds socialize together or does each tend to stick with their own? (Chinese people always with Chinese people instead of a group with like a Chinese person, Indian person, African American person, Caucasian person..)

Are you happy there or do you wish you had picked another school and why?

Stanford

yeah it’s cool

Asians mix with whites the most. But yeah generally you’ll see people of the same race chill with each other.

most of the time.

University at Buffalo

Yes.

Both. There are a lot of different ethnicities on campus, so people can mix pretty well.

Absolutely. And I visited and applied to many of the top schools for my major, yet I am convinced this was definitely the best choice.

Georgia State University

No, I LOVE it.

Sometimes you will see that happening but for the most part, people with similar backgrounds are seen together more often.

Yes, I only applied to this school and while I like Georgia State, I regret not applying to other schools just to “see” what they are like.

1.) Yes, I love it.
2.) University of California, Berkeley
3.) Race is mostly invisible here.
4.) No regrets on my decision.

Pomona College

It’s been the experience of a lifetime so far

There is some self-segregation, but for the most part people mix well

I turned down many more well-known schools to go to Pomona, and I have zero regrets

Rutgers University

I have a love/hate relationship with the school, but overall, I like it.

It is ethnically diverse. There are people that generally interact with people of other races. But I do notice that there are many that don’t like to get out of their comfort zone and would rather stick to their own group (Asians with other Asians; blacks with other blacks)

I had a rough semester this past Spring, so if you asked this question 3 months ago, I would have said that I hated the school. But I do like it here. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I went to another school, but overall, I feel “okay” here.

umich

it’s okay

from my very limited observations, people of different ethnic backgrounds who are still from here are very assimilated, international students not as much. but this is really not something i pay attention to.

i am happy here, but i wish i had waited to go to college until i could get financial aid.

Penn State

Love it, I don’t think I’ve met a person going here that didn’t love it.

Mostly do socialize with each other. International students from Asia tend to socialize with each other but not all of them.

Best choice I made. School spirit is extremely high, you can feel it just being here.

University of Maryland, College Park

I kinda like it

It’s a mix, but there is a lot of self-segregation as well

I’m not miserable, although my past semester was very rough. I wish I could have gone somewhere else though, or done something else with my life. The town it’s in is kinda crummy, although it IS near DC which is a fine city and all but not really a college city.

Vandy

Has its ups and downs

There’s some intermingling, but for the most part, minorities tend to stick with minorities and whites tend to stick with whites

I wouldn’t go as far to say that I’m happy, but I’d say I’m content with the school.

City College of New York.

Yes, I like it.

Mixed.

I am happy here.

Cornell

Like it a lot, im glad i chose to come here

People do what they want to do. If a person is more comfortable with their own culture (usually an International student), then they will be in that crowd of less diversity. No one is limited by any uncomfortable tensions. People who are more americanized mix with other americanized people regardless of race. People who are more comfortable being with their own choose to do so. The point is that everybody is free to choose and everyone is fairly comfortable. From my observation, there are more people who choose not to mix and have an ethnically homogeneous social circle, but it is even enough that it is not a concern.

i am very happy. the engineering college is rigorous and competitive, yet we still know how to have fun.

Stanford

Yeah it’s great.

People intermingle, but there is some self-segregation.

99% of the time. The other 1% is somewhat regretful I didn’t go to the USNA or West Point.
