SES stands for “socioeconomic status”. You may have read this term in the context of “low SES students” - essentially students from lower income households (often also from under-resourced areas). Many colleges, especially the elites, give a boost to such applicants to make up for the disadvantages they face vs wealthier, better resourced applicants.

the post I was reading was about sat scores… someone mentioned that when a college requires the sat for admission, it benefit high ses students.
