Quick question about grades?

When my grades are calculated the school puts 7 points for honors and ap, do the colleges keep it when looking at my scores

Since every school is different, like mine for example only 5 for honors and 6 for AP, i believe they will look at your UW GPA out of 4 to see so that they are able to distinguish one applicant from another. I believe weighted they use in terms of looking at your class rank, but i could be wrong.

but how do they know how many points to take off? I thought that they left these points got weighted by adding .5 to the honors/ap classes

They have your transcript with the letter grades. Many schools actually just recalculate GPAs using their own system to standardize them. They also have some idea how your GPA compares to other students' at your school based on your rank, courseload, and their knowledge of your school.

so they just take the letter with the points added?

No, many schools will look at the letter grade on your transcript for each class (I'm assuming those aren't weighted) and calculate your GPA with their own system and those grades. They also have info on how your school weights so they would know how much was added because of AP/honors.

the report cards are weighted so would the transcript be as well?

Hmm...yeah, probably. But your school profile will give info on that, so they will be able to recalculate to fit their own system.
