Hi,
I just have a really quick question that I would like some perspective on. I’m a WV resident, applying to Vanderbilt early decision, and was wondering what you all thought about the idea of being from West Virginia being a hook. I’ve heard different answers, and was just wondering for fun. Do you think being from WV offers a bit of a boost in admissions at better schools where West Virginia students may be sparse?
Thanks for any insight!
I don’t think Vandy is hard up enough to admit any student just because of lack of numbers of qualified applicants from a state. They get so many wonderfully qualified applicants, and it is painful to not admit hundreds more than they can although those fine students will all land in good places. That said, strong essays and references are always appreciated. And in my opinion, the staff person assigned to your region will do a very thoughtful job assessing the courses you took within the context of the opportunities your school provided.
