How hard is it to get a single as a regular and in SHC? As in how bad is the lottory? do a lot of people prefer singles or doubles?

anyone have an idea?

Any one???

My son isn’t in SHC - but he does have a single. He put in for the lottery last year and was NOT chosen for the single. He did get a double and was at least placed in the dorm he requested. He remained on the single waiting list the entire time. About one week after he received his dorm and roommate assignment we received a call from PSU asking my son if he still wanted the single. So - in the end, he got the single, but not immediately and only after staying on the waiting list.

Not sure if SHC is easier or harder for a single - but just wanted to comment if you don’t get chosen in the lottery right off, stay on the waiting list - it still might happen.

^^^^ thank you!!!

Another story: I had a friend that was going to be in a double room in West and requested it but changed her mind at the last second and asked to be changed to a single. She got the single.

was she a first year student?

No, she was a sophomore. You’re going to get a roommate no matter what your first year, sorry. It’s really not that bad. If your roommate is an awful, horrible being you can always request to switch.

My son didn’t get a room in SHC his first year (didn’t want one)- but did his second. The rooms went quickly and he didn’t get the one he really wanted, but he’s okay with his room.

Personally, I think part of college life is sharing a room. That doesn’t mean you have to do it the whole time, but I do think it is an important part of the college dorm experience.
