I started to fill out my FAFSA profile and realized I was filing for 2012-2013 school year instead of the 2013-2014 (which I know comes out Jan. 1, 2013)

I cleared out all my data, but my account is still saved on there.

Nothing horrible is going to happen, right? As in I will still be able to file for the 2013-2014 school year, correct?

Sorry for sounding so crazy. I just realized I have 2 weeks to fill out my CSS profile..

As far as I know, you can use your old profile to file a new form.

I’m sure it happens all the time. Now you have your PIN all established, and you’ll be able to move that much faster at the beginning of January when the new FAFSA form becomes available. No worries.

good question as i’m sure this happens quite often. good to know that you’ll be ok and not made a huge mistake. i think that as long as you did not click on the submit buttom, you’ll be fine.

Not a huge error and will have no effect on your aid for next year. Even if you clicked on the submit button it won’t matter at all. The school won’t use the data as you are not enrolled for the 2012-2013 school year. Just make sure you submit the correct FAFSA come January. You will probably be able to populate the 2013-2014 FAFSA with personal, not financial, data you have entered.

The good thing is you realized. Some students don’t realize they have submitted the wrong year and miss important deadlines thinking they have submitted FAFSA when in fact they have not (the wrong year’s does not count for meeting deadlines). We see at least a couple of cases like that every year here on CC.
