Hello all and happy Memorial Day weekend. I was just looking at the course requirements for Temple admission for freshman and it looks like they require a year of Fine Arts? My son will apply in the fall but had not taken any arts or music courses in high school. He’s taken all advanced math and sciences as well as AP comp sci and several Honors engineering electives and honors anatomy as well and many others honors and AP classes.
He plans to apply to CST as a neuroscience major. Will not having arts in high school put him in a disadvantage with his application?
I’m surprised your son’s high school doesn’t have a one semester arts requirement to graduate.
I don’t know if this is a new requirement or not, but my D17 was admitted to Temple with no courses that I would consider fine arts, though maybe her Digital Media course (a minor elective) counted as one. You might want to check with Temple as to what counts as a fine arts course.
I hope they will see his rigorous schedule all through high school and won’t hold not taking an art or music class against him. Honestly the last time he took an art class was in 8th grade and he did terrible. Can’t draw or sing to save his life lol
My daughter had a requirement for one performing arts class. Hers was ceramics! I don’t know how that vase performed, but it counted. You will be amazed at what they consider fine arts or performing arts.
Thanks. I checked his school handbook and it does require 1 credit of fine arts or humanities to graduate. So he has fulfilled the humanities credit.
