Quick question on Sandel's Justice class

It's still being taught, right?

yes. [Justice: A Journey in Moral Reasoning, Michael J. Sandel](http://athome.harvard.edu/programs/jmr/)

They claim every year that “it is the last year.” I doubt this will happen for some time.

Rabbit, if Harvard is trying to get rid of it, then do they offer any other courses similar to this one?

I thought it was not being taught next year, but would be offered the year after…

That may happen, I’d just wait until the course guide comes out this summer to see.

It’s not that they want to get rid of it I’m sure. I just doubt that Sandel wants to keep teaching it ever year. But sure there are plenty of classes “like it.” The philosophy department also has courses on ethics and global justice. Sandel teaches a course on bioethics (which is what he writes about). And there are usually a handful of other related courses which fulfill the Moral Reasoning requirement. If you’re actually interested in the topic, I wouldn’t take Sandel’s class. You’re stuck in their with 1000 kids and a TF who may or may not be good. I’d take a smaller class where you’ll actually have discussions with the professor.

In defense of Justice, Sandel is an amazing teacher/entertainer. He does a great job of getting student participation (calling on people in class, getting debates going on the Justice blog). And if you have an amazing TF (like I did!) you’ll get a nice taste of philosophy + moral reasoning.

But if you’re interested in being a philosophy concentrator or something like that, this definitely isn’t the class for you.

professor sandel does an awesome job with justice. he makes himself very available (given how many people want his time). i also had a great TF who was very thorough. i’d been dreading the moral reasoning requirement, but i ended up enjoying it.

it’s definitely not the most difficult course, though. people call it philosophy-lite.
