Quick question

Hi
I am from India and i will be completing my undergrad studies(engg) in may 2009. I took the GRE last year without much preparation just to check where i stand.
The result was a dismal 360 V 770 Q and 3.5 in analytical writing!!!!
Verbal scores came as a shocker to me as i have been a pretty descent student in english throughout school and college.
I want to get a Masters degree in Computer Science from a reputed US institution.. just wanted to confirm that these scores will not take me a long way and that i will have to appear for the GRE again this year??What sort of score should i target??
Any comments are welcome.
Thanks!

Your Quantitative is fine, but you should try to raise your Verbal by another 100+ points (500+ total would be better), and then another .5 or so for the Analytical Writing. V and AW aren't very important for Computer Science, but I think a 360 would definitely be quite disadvantageous.

Hey Abhishake, you should check out the Test Magic Forums. It is similar to CC but devoted to graduate school and has a large international student presence, from India and elsewhere. I would think that for international students, the TOEFL would be more important than either the verbal or AWA sections of the GRE, esp. since you are entering a technical field. The more reputable the institution, the less emphasis they also tend to place on standardized testing, assuming you pass their minimum requirement. It is probably best to consult with the universities directly in your situation.

Thanks for the reply guys!!
So leejwwc what you are saying implies that it might be possible that i don't have to take the gre again?? I would ideally like to target colleges like UTexas-Austin, UMichigan or UToronto..
