Quick question

If I attend a college for the summer, would I qualify for any non-merit based federal aid? Could I qualify for anything like a pell-grant or something from the FAFSA? Thanks for any information... I'm getting a big head start on my research.

Need more details.

College during the summer while you are in high school - no - you must be in a degree seeking program to qualify for federal aid

College during the summer while you are in college - if you are in college and qualify or a pell grant you will probably use it up during the school year.

I'm in college and high school, but I'm just taking a few courses (no degree program) and I'm exempt from tuition during the school year at the community college. So I guess I don't qualify for any federal aid. I guess I should just look for a job and some local scholarships.

You definitely will not qualify for any need based aid in your situation. I am not sure if you will even be able to get private scholarships for that scenario, but it never hurts to try.

The math department one of the schools I'm looking is at least open to accepting an application summer tutoring with them. I have almost 2k saved up and I need just over 4k. So it looks like I'll be paying with sweat equity. :)

Sounds like a plan. You will go far with such a great attitude & willingness to work!
