Hi!
I'm currently a freshman at Cornell and I'm considering living off campus in an apartment next year but just wanted more opinions.
I want a really quiet place (so collegetown is out of the question) and close to campus, so I was wondering if you guys have any advice on either Cornell upper level residence halls that are generally very quiet, and if these don't exist, then which apartments would you guys reccomend?

Also, if I live in an apartment off campus, will my financial aid stay the same? will Cornell still factor my living into the aid?

I think it maybe kind of late in trying to get an apartment off campus for next year, most good ones are gone. My older kid lived in Collegetown (312) and it was very quiet. My younger one will be living one street over from College Ave and it will be very quiet. Most apartments have sound proof windows.

Cornell will continue to give you aid even if you live off campus. I am not sure if they would use Cornell’s room and board costs or your actual rent, check with FA.

most colleges have a budget for students, which may have same or different on/off campus budgets for housing. They use this as the estimated cost of attendance. Here is what I found for Cornell
<a href=“Cost to Attend | Financial Aid”>http://finaid.cornell.edu/cost-attend

One thing to keep in mind is when you live off campus you will be paying for 12 months of rent, not 9 months, so your total cost will go up unless you sublet your apartment when you are not at school (summer).

Have you considered checking out the program houses? One caveat about them is that they can be pretty quiet, but if that’s what you’re looking for then it could be a plus. Most of them are on North Campus (in the low-rises) but it wouldn’t be too much further of a walk.

Good luck!
