Quinnipiac or Suffolk University?

Here's the deal. I was waitlisted at Northeastern University which is my first choice. Now I must make a deposit at another school while I wait, and i narrowed down my options to QU and Suffolk, 2 very different schools.

Quinnipiac- Was always my second choice. The campus is great, the school is up and coming but very expensive.

Suffolk- I would be going here mainly because of location. I would definitely only be spending 1 year max here. I reallly do like Boston and would attend here for a year before I ultimately transfer to neu (if i don't get off the waitlist) It's a little bit less expensive for a private university, but obviously doesn't offer the campus, school pride, college feel that QU does.

I'm torn between the two. Hopefully a miracle will happen and I'll get off the waitlist at Northeastern, but I have to have a solid back up plan...any input would be greatly appreciated

Are they really different in cost? I thought I saw that the cost of attendance at QU was $42K. On the Suffolk website, it shows $13,500 per semester, but if you add in room, board, fees, etc., you get up to $42K as well.

I’d go to Quinnipiac. While the Suffolk location is pretty amazing, the kids I know who go there are very unhappy.

Suffolk doesn’t have the reputation of academics like Quinnipiac. I’d go to Quinnipiac. It is more bang for your buck.

another vote for Quinnipiac, especially if it’s a wash for cost of attendance…like Eliza B, I know kids there who are not very happy…

Quinnipiac, its just more of a quintessential college than Suffolk. Plus, QU has a better academic reputation. I wouldn’t risk going to Suffolk then transferring to NEU. There’s always a chance that won’t work. (Their incoming class may be unusually large, academic or financial reasons, etc.)

wow thats a pretty overwhelming response…my heart is set on neu so i figured a year in boston could only benefit me. I know QU is more reputable but i feel like it would be almost a waste of a year spending it in ct. The cost comes to about 48k at quinnipiac and 43k at suffolk

I’d say QU, but for different reasons. You want to go to Suffolk because you want to go to NEU. Don’t dwell! College admissions aren’t the end of the world. Spend a year at QU. Maybe you’ll fall in love. If you don’t, you can STILL transfer out.

I would vote for Quinnapiac as well. I just think it is a much better school. You may even decide to stay.

Northeastern seems to be quite the hot college this year. Lots of applications (and rejections) from my son’s high school. You have a lot of company.

if you’re only going for a year, then why not go to a cc?

TrixieAnn- The number of applicants for that school was pretty overwhelming, I think they only accepted 35% this year…the thing is, I don’t want to go to and fall in love with QU. I see myself being so much more successful at Northeastern and in Boston. I think I would be using Suffolk as a platform for making connections in the city even though I know its not as prestigious as QU

bschaef- financially, it would make sense but I refuse to stay home and go to cc next year and I don’t want to find an apartment elsewhere

What if you go to Suffolk and hate it and when you try to transfer, you don’t get accepted? (I know that seems harsh but think about it)

You are stuck at a (IMHO) crappy school.

If you go to Quinnipiac and hate it, at least you will be at a reputable school.

Don’t worry about transferring, just go to the one you think you’ll fit in or like the most.

Then if you want to transfer after spending a year there, then transfer.
