Quinnipiac University - Any Questions for a Student?

How is the dance program?
Thanks

I recently applied for transfer to QU, and I've gotten in and been to the orientation, but I'm very hesistant to go here. For me, almost everything has been perfect about the school so far - I am a communications major so the academics are great, the location is great as I live about 45 minutes away, and the campus is beautiful. The reason I am hesitant, however, is because I am worried about the type of people that are rumored to go here - of course you can't base everything on rumors, but it just worries me. I do not come from a wealthy family, and I was wondering how this would affect my experience - do people generally flaunt the fact that they have money here?
Also, another question I had was about the room set-up in Whitney Village. Can you request a particular room? I just noticed some of the rooms are smaller than others on the tour, and was wondering if we could ask for a particular room (of course the one with the 1/2 bath ;)
In addition, how well would you say they match roomates together based on the surveys you fill out about yourself?

Hi, how hard is it to get into the PA program? My d has a SAT score of 2000, 710 in Math, but her GPA is just about 3.0 & her Honors Chemistry grades last year were not too good though she has strong ECS. Also, any idea how hard it is to maintain a 3.0 average which is required for the PA program?? Just concerned because of her issues with Chemistry last year. Thanks.

Time to revive this thread...anyone know the usual amounts of financial aid for this school? How about average admission stats? My D is interested in Communications and Advertising

Here's what I heard on a tour of QU just today:

The amount of merit-based financial aid varies and you need 1150 SATs (verbal and math only for now) just to be considered for aid.

Avg stats for admission as follows: B-or-above GPA, avg SAT of 1150, top 25% of graduating class.

Hope this helps.

What's the average attendance at Hockey and Basketball games?

What is the capacity of TD Banknorth Sports Center for these events?

What percentage of students have cars on campus?

On average about how many students remain on campus for the weekend?

Do students venture into Hamden in their spare time? What is there to do in the surrounding town?

About how long does it take to get to NYC via train from New Haven? (Assume the student must rely on the shuttle for transportation to New Haven, and factor that into travel time)

What is the reputation of the Honors College?

hello, although your post saying that you could answer a question concerning qunnipiac university dates 2005 i will make a try.
i am will have an internship there in the school of communication they say it is either mout carmel or north haven campus plus there are classes in the digital studion (did not mention where it it is). my question is: where would you better advice to rent an appartment in New Haven or Hamton? concerning that i wont have a car.
i would appreciate very very much your help!
thank you

@cammee

You should rent an apartment in Hamden. New Haven will be harder to get to if you don’t have a car. Try to find one along the public bus line or the QU shuttle line.

YESSSSSSSSSSS I’ve been looking at this school forever!!!

How much do you think volunteer hours will help in the application process? I have 312 hours, but plan to have 500 by the time I apply in the fall.
Also how is the financial aid? My father is 70 and will probably retire sometime soon, and my mother works at Bloomingdales, so we won’t have too much money flying in…

Thank you soo much! :)))))))))

@Gargar9787: It should help a lot that is a huge amount of hours

Ok so I have not visited Quinnipiac University yet but the school seems like exactly the school I am looking for. It seems to have a beautiful campus a good education and since I would like to be a PA it is perfect because they have a great program for that. The problem is Quinnipiac University is about 50,000 dollars a year in all. That is way to expensive and if I want to go there I will definitely need some kind of scholarship. I was wondering if you think I cam eligible to get some kind of scholarship based on these stats:
Unweighted GPA- 3.8
Weighted GPA- 4.0
Class Rank- 120 out of 466
Average- 92
Extra Curricular- Volunteer at hospital, help out in main office, in business club-DECA
I have not taken my SATs yet but please tell me what you think based on these stats so far. Also if you have any other colleges that are cheaper with a great PA program please let me know, that would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

@ChrisC2: I applied for the PA program and got in. Scholarships at Quinnipiac University do NOT take a holistic approach-- they simply look at your SAT/ACT score. If your SAT/ACT score is in X range, you get X amount of money. here’s the website for Quinnipiac scholarships, take a look: [Scholarships - Quinnipiac University – Hamden, Connecticut](http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x121.xml)

I’m not sure how much financial aid they give out, as my father just submitted FAFSA. However, I did receive a merit aid package of $15,000/yr from QU.

If you’re looking for a school with a combined BS/MS Physician Assistant program, here are the ones I know of: Philadelphia University, Seton Hill University, Wagner College, Seton Hall University, DeSales University, Nova Southeastern University, King’s College, Arcadia University, Marywood University, Albany College of Pharmacy, D’Youville College, Rochester Institute of Technology, New York Institute of Technology, Daemen College, & Drexel University. I’m not sure about their tuition, but they’re all private. However, I’m sure some offer very generous scholarships.

Good luck on the SATs & your college search!

Laurapaigetm, quick question.
I applied to the P.A. program as well. If you don’t mind me asking, when did you hear back and when did you apply? And how are your stats?
Thanks!

@antt07: I applied Oct. 17 and received my acceptance on Dec. 24. Less than a week later I received a merit aid package of $15,000/yr.

SAT: 640cr, 670m, 680w (this is superscored)
GPA: 104 on a 100 scale
Rank: 4 out of 650 students (top 1%)
1 AP class soph year, 1 AP jr year, & 4 AP sr year. all other classes are honors/advanced
EC: Interact exec board, hospital volunteer every summer, National Honor Society, a few other things

hope this helps :)

Ok thanks laurapaigetm. Did you go to quinnipiac and do the 6 year physicians assistant program or did you graduate from another college and then apply to the physician assistant program.

actually, i’m a senior in high school. i dont really know what i want to major in. out of the 11 schools i applied to, quinnpiac is the only school that i applied to a physician assistant program… just to keep my options open. my mom is really pushing me to go to QU so that i graduate with a good-paying job, but im scared im going to end up not liking being a PA at all.

but if you definitely know you want to be a PA, i highly recommend doing a combined BS/MS program. nowadays, getting into a PA program after graduating with an undergraduate degree is as hard as (if not harder) than getting into medical school… PA is such a lucrative job right now! best of luck to you :)
