Quinnipiac University - Any Questions for a Student?

Yea there a good chance I may go to Quinnipac, but I also have to visit Marist, JMU, UCONN, and Elon, so who knows. But anyway my impressions of the school are very good, campus is gorgeous right in a valley between two mountains. The architechture is very beautiful and its just a great overall setup. The only thing I noticed when I went up there is there wasn't much activity in the area. I went to a dorm get-together but there are no frats and the closest city is New Haven... its a vey nice, smallish school but Im a very active person who would hate to get bored, Ill get back to you.

i'm looking at marist too lol. let me know what u do..like if u pick marist or quinnipiac.

Jersey boy,
Yeah I also applied to Elon, however for multiple reasons the school just didn't work out for me. I too am involved and like lots of activity so QU's rural setting might pose a threat..but New Haven is nearby and I hear thats pretty happening..plus it's not that far away from NYC..yeah having no frats suck, plus I was hoping to join a sorerity(sp?) greek life seems fairly interesting..but I'm sure their social life will still be fun. I come from an extremely small school, right outside of Harrisburg, Pa so I actually think QU will be on the big side for me. Right now I'm either going to QU or Loyola College in Maryland..so we'll see what happens. Good luck with your college choices..and by the way I have many friends that go to JMU and don't like it ..just to keep in mind, but I'm sure you will make the right decision.

Just so you know, Quinnipiac does and Frats (2) and Soriorities (2), just no "frat houses" on campus, but i know one of the frats has housing off campus where there is typically a lot of parties.

What is Quinnipiacs acceptance rate on the waitlist..how many do they normally have on it and what percentage are accepted? thanks.

yea and supposedly a new sorority and fraternity will be added on next year.

how are the academics at quinnipiac?
how would you compare quinnipiac and uconn?

Does anyone have a sense of the drug and alcohol scene at Quinnipiac University?

uconn is better in business and quinnipiac is better in communications

which is better for chemistry?

uconn!!!! haha, have u seen their chemistry building!!!!!!!??/?

No, I have not, but thanks for answering. I'm visiting UCONN over the weekend so maybe I'll really like it.

Hopefully you will like it better than I did. UConn didn't do anything for me, its in the middle of f**king nowhere and there is a lot of construction. I much prefer Quinnipiac's feel to UConn, but thats just my opinion.

I feel as if there is a very low drug atmosphere on campus, but drinking is about average.

As for QU vs. UConn, theres no comparission. UConn is a huge school compared to QU, and i feel that QU has more to offer due to it's small class sizes, professor availability and personal attention. Teacher's know you by name and are there to help you. Plus classes aren't taught by TA's!!!

Quinnipiac is an up and coming school, which is constantly improving.

Jewls, thank you for answering my question.

Jewls... I go to UConn...UConn upper level business courses are not taught by TA's. The classes are small, and the professors always have time for you and know your name. UConn has the superior business program. It is much more difficult to get into the Business program at UConn. UConn had the premier undergrad business program in Connecticut. We control the Hartford and Stamford markets. I know a few people who transferred from QU to the business school at UConn because of its stronger reputation. In terms of the sciences, UConn is again the superior academic university. If you want communications, then you would be stupid to turn down Quinnipiac. I got into Lender a while back, and visited the communications building. I was amazed at the kind of funding they get for that particular program. Hope this helps.

Yes it does, thanks

My son is an incoming fall 2006 freshman and just got his room assignment. He has been assigned an 8 person room in Commons. This is quite disturbing to me and him--any inside info on how an 8 person dorm room works (or how to get out of it). It seems as tho a 4 person room is difficult enough to handle--especially as a freshman.

I saw an 8 bed setup on the Quinnipiac tour yesterday. It wasn't a dorm room, it was the dorm's study space converted into a dorm room. (sorry, I don't remember the name of the dorm)

I asked our guide who gets placed there and I couldn't get a direct answer. She did say that by second semester, after students transfer or drop out, those remaining in the study room find space in regular triples/quads.

Seems unfair to the students in an 8 bed setup and the rest of the dorm too. Everyone looses a convenient study space.

I lived in Commons last year and I saw the study lounges. Those are the result of accepting too many incoming freshman students. Here's the deal... Although it may seem (very) scary at first, students actually love them and when given the option to move out after first semester, most opt to continue living in them anyways. I think that if it is a major issue within the first 3 weeks of school he might be able to get a room change, because other people could be just as unhappy living in a 3 or 4 person room. A pro to the 8 person room- you automatically have 7 friends to make the transition much easier. From my experience last year, the first two weeks of school are very scary and lonely, and making friends is much harder than I would have ever thought. Hope that answers your question!
