After a tour I fell in love with the community at Casewestern! However the university is in a city which is not an environment I am comfortable in. Do you know any schools that have a smilar student body as Case Western but are not directly inside of cities?
Try looking at smaller LACs in smaller communities.
A few students I know have come down to U Rochester and Case Western as two finalists. U Rochester is in Rochester, NY, but has a definite campus to it vs the more urban Case. Both are private Research Us.
Tufts
JHU
Emory
Wake Forest
College of William & Mary
Bucknell
WPI
If you’re into STEM, maybe look at Harvey Mudd in the Claremont Consortium (suburban CA).
Other quirky LACs include Reed, Wesleyan, Oberlin, Swarthmore. Of these, only Swarthmore offers engineering.
Mid-sized universities that are not urban and are also quirky are not that easy to find. I have been searching this category for awhile. Rochester might suit you, as mentioned up thread.
Bucknell and Wake are not quirky in my opinion.
Look at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA–there is definitely a quirky student population. The college started as an experiment in progressive education–majors are interdisciplinary instead of a single discipline, evaluations rather than grades. Hampshire is also part of the Five College Consortium (UMass, Mt. Holyoke, Smith, and Amherst), which means you can take courses at these colleges as well.
Not sure your intended major but Oberlin would fit the quirky criteria.
If you’re looking at STEM majors take a look at Michigan Tech, in the UP of Michigan, definitely not urban.
If you are looking for a quirky version of CWRU, with a beautiful campus, and similar academics and selectivity, look no further than U Rochester. Seriously, that’s its description on Wikipedia.
Hahaha I actually have been born and raised in Rochester, NY. Both my parents went there for undergrad, my mom got her Dr. there and is currently a proffessor at UR. I don’t know how to feel with the overwhelming response of UR to my question
What are your stats? Financial situation? Planned major? It is hard to make suggestions without that info.
D2 had a quirky friend from her programming club & robotics team who attended CW and loved it.
Oberlin
@quirkyandready , saw your other thread. Frankly, if your mom is a prof there, and you know you already love the school, it seems crazy not to go there. Surely your mom will be able to secure a big discount for you. Study abroad at UR, become friends with people from out of the state and country. Do an overseas internship with all that cash not spent on tuition at UR. I think your answer has been right in front of you all along.
You can consider Clark, but it’s not quite on the same level as UR.
I have a 34 ACT, 3.9 GPA, financial situation is good enough affording any colleges under $40 grand a year is possible, and i want to major in environmental engineering if this helps
For environmental engineering and your stated goals. I bet you would love UVMs EE program. School is great and beautiful. Burlington is the Austin of New England. Weather is cold too. But you got that down by now.
