quitting piano?

i've been playing piano for close to 8 years, but it's really getting hard for me to practice and put any effort into it...should i quit?

It depends, maybe you just lost interest in songs. You could find an interesting theme to play.

Well if you're in high school... Which, since this is the high school sub-forum, I would guess you are...
No, it'll look nice on your College resume and even if your a freshman 3 years more... and you don't even have to try that hard, just saying you did it may make a difference.
I wouldn't quit unless I really didn't have the time or hated it ALOT, otherwise I would suck it up and stick with it...Thats me....

If you are really passionate about it, don't quit. If you're only doing it to have it on your resume and hate every minute of practice, quit.

I played the piano for just over 11 years before I finally gave it up in grade 12; while I still enjoyed it, I simply did not have the time to practice, and it just wasn't worth going to lessons anymore (my teacher is fantastic, but he charges quite a bit, I didn't think it was worth my parents' money or his time if I wasn't able to put in the time to practice every week)

That said, do you still enjoy playing? Could you possibly scale back (e.g. only go to lessons a few times a month, rather than every week)?

Don't you dare quit! I'm sure you are pretty good by now, and to quit now is to just give up and forget all the work you put into it over the past years. Just keep going with it, quit now and you'll regret it in a few years when you'll really wish you could still play.

yeah, don't quit....it would be such a waste..

At the very least, if you enjoy it, maybe you should try summer lessons only, or lessons every other week.

Your development is pretty stunted throughout the school year if you only do summer lessons, but if you're free in the summer, you can still develop it somewhat as long as your continue playing throughout the year, which you can then do at your own pace.

So if you enjoy it, why quit? If you don't enjoy, why waste your time, money and efforts?

Haha, I don't regret it. But I hated it...

Well this is a choice you really have to make for yourself. I used to contemplate quitting piano all the time, but it really depends on how much you like/dislike piano and how well you play. If you like piano, by all means, continue it. I struggled through junior year not practicing half as much as I used to, but keeping everything going and I have never regreted it. If you don't like it, you have to ask yourself if you are good enough that it's an "investment" for college (which btw, I disapprove of) or if it's something you want to put aside. It really depends on how much you like to play. If you're just doing it for college, even if you are good at it... it's really not worth that much time.

I quit, and I TOTALLY regret it to this day.

aisgzdavinci, why?

I used to play piano, but i really didn't like it. Usually, if you hate something, you discover it quickly. By my 2nd year, I hated it, and in my 3rd year, i quit. if you feel like quitting, think again... you've played for EIGHT years. It's definitely something nice for your app (unless you're asian.. you'd then have to be very recognized for that to count for much).. Try to rediscover what made you like piano. Listen to some of those beautiful songs, and keep on trying it. Try a new song maybe. However, if, after awhile, and it still isn't working, then quit.

NO!...don't quit...I love playing the piano.

don't quit. You will regret it as I did.
