Quiz Bowl

Hey, I'm going to start a Quiz Bowl at my school! I was wondering if Quiz Bowl if there is an official charter for Quiz Bowl, or if it is just something arbitrary to participate in at other schools. Also, I'll need help gaining members; it's difficult to sell the idea of attending 2-hour study sessions, self-study of various topics, and competing academically against other schools. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks!

I was on some sort of academic quiz team last year. This is one of those things that has fifty million different names. Anyway, I think the rules (there are plenty) are specific to the area where you live. The league I was part of did not compete outside the region of twelve schools. However, some of the schools in the league went to other competitions and tournaments. I would suggest talking with a coordinator at a nearby school to see how it works.

About practices: my team practiced an hour and a half per week, one one day after school. Then when meets started, they simply shifted the day and had meets in the previous slot, usually lasting from 3-6 pm, from the time we left the school until we got back. There was no self study unless the members of the team were especially ambitious. The coach did recommend a few books and websites, though. My team had 8 members. In my league, 4 is the minimum for a team, since 4 play at a time. But this is something that could just be specific to my league.
