Hello there.

I just wrote a draft of my essay (went better than expected) and I've decided to end the essay with a quote.

The problem is that it's a quote from someone I don't know personally. And it's 58 words long (my entire essay is barely 500 words).

Is this a sensible/sane thing to do? Is it regarded as risky/out of norm?

If you guys want, I can PM you guys the essay to give a bit more context to this dilemma.

The quote does somewhat tie in with the overall message and does give a bit sentiments (I hope).

Any feedback would be more than appreciated! Thanks in advance guys =3=

That seems like a long quotation for a small essay…can you shorten it or paraphrase it into your own words?

Thanks for the feedback
I can definitely paraphrase it to make it more succinct. But how long of a quote do people put in their essay? Around a sentence?

Also, how long are the essays supposed to be? I thought for Common App, it should be around 500 words so it does not exceed the space limitations.

That is an extremely long quote. If you want to end on a quote, it should be a short quote that connects to your entire essay. A quote that long should be an introduction, and the rest of your essay should expand on that quote, discuss it, analyze it, and add your own thoughts and commentary to it.

Great point. I will try to amend the problems. Thanks alot mate :)
