On the supplement essay, do I necessarily have to agree with the message of the quote? I’m doing ‘‘Art is man’s constant effort to create for himself a different order of reality from that which is given to him.’’ Do you think it’s okay to write about in a disagreeing light?

I think it shows intellectual fortitude.

Miri- I actually did the same thing, for the same quote. one of my friends did too. I know it's a little late to tell you that now...but if you're as anxious as I am about my Amherst application, any reassurance might help!

I think that is fine. It does, after all, ask you to "respond" to the quotation. Your response need not be agreement.

I'm sure that's more than fine and, like froghorn said, shows intellectual fortitude---guts, basically. And that's a really good thing. So RELAX. :D

I disagreed with a prompt -- it's snowing here in Amherst ;)

Hardcore snowing here in Eastern MA, too. How heavy is the snow in Pioneer Valley?

My DD saw the snow on the news this morning, and is so excited that she will be at Amherst next year. She has never lived outside of Georgia, so It will be interesting to see how long before all the "beautiful snow" isn't so appealing anymore!

I say give it a week, to turn into cold, brown ugliness. Or once it sneaks into her boots, then she may not like it so much!

I'm a little nervous at the prospect of going to school somewhere freezing, seeing as I've never seen snow before

Snow is fine as long as you don't have to shovel it.

Just two seasons in Honduras: 7-9 months summer, 3-5 months of rain. I look forward to seeing snow for the first time.
