You are relatively new to this site. Hang around awhile and you will know why.

cobrat professes to be an authority on nearly every subject due his supposed conversations with his cousins/aunts/uncles/Stuy highschool classmates/neices/nephews/parents/grandparents/Oberlin profs/professional animal toenail clippers, and uses what they supposedly say as evidence that what he claims is true “IRL.”

Isn’t that what pet groomers are for??? I, for one, would never attempt to clip my pet’s toenails! Talk about trauma… for both of us.

Kidding aside, I do believe all the groomers at our groomer’s shop have been to vocational school and are either licensed or certified. Does that make them professional??

The guy who owns the Portland Dogwash–a great place to bathe your own dog AND a great source of high quality pet food–happens to do a really superior job at clipping my dog’s rather difficult nails. :)

BTW, since I was recently informed by cobrat that people of Irish descent were not considered “white” in this country as late as the 1970s, I can’t wait to hang all you racists out to dry when St. Patrick’s day rolls around and all you non-Irish people perpetuate a bunch of stupid and demeaning stereotypes. (And no, it is NOT “Paddy.” That is a slur along the lines of calling someone a Mick.)

Its not the noun that I object to- its the concept involved. You said an entire region of people were inept and subhuman and you laughed at them while swilling inferior California white wines and feeding each other artisan cheeses with interlocked arms.

I said that even the simple country hayseed knows to provide country hospitality and and a howdy-do to all God’s creatures. You were Hatesplain’ and I was explicatin’.

Clearly the OP’s D is a college peopled “openminded” “globally community” Northern’s. And I doubt that there will be much respite from them if she looks to schools up North.

Its been my observation that if you come across a particular egregious example of thought crime it comes from people who think themselves “openminded”. For instance, UC universities voting to criminalize the term “illegal alien”.

Smith is super diverse except it excludes in its bylaws 50% of the population; underrepresented blacks and Hispanics and the political gamut runs from socialist all the way to marxist. Elon has more AA’s and Hispanics and admits that a small sliver of something called a Moderate exists. Which was more diverse again?

And your naivety is in thinking that people even “think” about regions other than the ones they live in…give it a rest. Since when did anyone say an entire region was inept and subhuman? You might need to check yourself and see if that is an attribute YOU are implying (maybe a little defensive?).

It reminds me of a lecture I went to when someone asked, “What do you think about Canadians?” And the answer was’"I don’t. " Kind of the same for people that aren’t from, or hung up on, “the south.” You’re taking yourself WAY too seriously.

I already apoligised for my ignorance on the plight of a group of people I wasn’t aware had a culture. My bad…learn something new everyday. At least I’m open minded to think about why it might be offensive.

On the other hand, you choose to willow in your victim hood.

OK, I haven’t but it is nice to join in with the rest of you. Ok it wasn’t; psychologically unhealthy and all that.

I am actually from New York and have lived among the indigenous people of the South for several years observing their ways and curious tribal customs. In many way they are quite human. When not burning crosses and enacting Jim Crow laws, or providing fodder for tv shows they are often quote solicitous and offer many a neighborly hot pot meal.

In fact Southerns actually appear to have neighborly relations with other races, something I havent always observed when I was up North. Not the condescending forced busing or I’ll-scratch-your-back-if-you-scratch-mine of the Northern Political machine vote trading, but the actual human interaction of people who share a common culture that goes way beyond race.

Limewine, its far too late to claim that you dont think 'bout 'dem Rednecks. You and your friends are obsessed and laughing up your sleeves. The thing about perspective is that it can make anyone a laughingstock. I have met some simple minded, slow thinkers down here, but none that simultaneously proclaimed that they were open minded.

While it may appear to be a product of the PC-police types who look for things (often interpreted in exaggerated ways) to be offended by, your reaction to the such a bill in a student government seems to be much the same in looking for something to be offended by, using an exaggerated interpretation.

One is being offended by other people’s actions. Mine is being offended at the hypocrisy of people claiming to be opened minded trying to control other peoples’ thoughts.

But you’re trying a little gamesmanship yourself, arg. Surely you see the same putdowns you gripe about- just aimed differently, as if that’s any better. And with both barrels loaded. If your agenda is to defend the South, it’s not coming through. If it’s to rile us up, well, past a certain point: Quacks like a Duck. I find that offensive.

"In fact Southerns actually appear to have neighborly relations with other races, something I havent always observed when I was up North. "

Yes, we can tell; that’s why I completely imagined a thread about Alabama sororities not letting in white women, and completely imagined how 30 years ago my sorority and H’s fraternity had black presidents and no one thought twice about it. Yep, you keep sticking with that story. Remind me again about segregated lunch counters and buses and water fountains.
