i know this has probably been asked before but i was just wondering if any black students who attend emory have any trouble with racist people/groups at the university? i mean it's atlanta in the south so just wondering? thank you

i wouldnt expect it to exist more than at any other college. i mean, im born and raised in atlanta (well atlanta adjacent) and i've never encountered racism.

This used to be a problem at the University. Thankfully, racism is definitely a thing of the past at Emory. Most of the white people at the school are in fact Jews, and being that Jews have encountered their share of racism in the past they know not to dish it out. Most of the students here aren't from the South anyway. I've heard absolutely disgusting stories of pranks done by one particular frat against Alpha Phi Alpha (the Black Frat) 15 years ago. The school closed its dental school like 20 years ago because of racism against Jews and Blacks.

what has dental school got to do with Jews and Blacks?

Really pugachev? First of all, check the statistics of current students to see which percentages are from which parts of the country and what percentage of students are which religion. I'm not going to bother to look it up, but those claims are your perception, not the reality. The highest plurality of students are in fact from the Southeast.

Second of all, your stories are just that. I know the ones youre talking about and many of them are just rumors. I'm not a member of that fraternity and neither are you. But I'm willing to be you haven't bothered to ask the members of that fraternity about the circumstances surrounding those occurances.

Third of all, the dental school was closed because of funding issues and the lack of interest in dental school generally compared to the high number of institutions vying for students. Many southern dental schools closed in the 80s for the same reasons.

thanks for the replies everyone

anyone else?

There looks to be a lot of information on the President's Commission on Race and Ethnicity website. You can see the results of "climate surveys" at Emory and the commission's recommendations for improvement as well as a variety of other goodies.
