Radford Merit Scholarships

My daughter has been accepted to Radford. Her acceptance did not include any financial aid information. Does anyone know when/how that information will come? Thanks!

Are you asking about merit scholarships or need-based aid? Merit scholarships often come with acceptances or shortly thereafter.

Does their website given an indication as to what ACT/SAT scores get merit?

Need based aid packages may not get sent for awhile. Just depends on the school. Some may be packaging FA now or soon.

I am asking about Radford’s timeline for merit scholarships. The acceptance letter was just that - a letter - and the online portal still shows her in the application stage a week later.

I don’t think that anyone here is that familiar with that school’s scholarship awards. Have you looked at their website?

Is there anything on their Scholarships webpage that suggests that her test scores would get a merit scholarship?

Edited to add… I went to their website and it seems like there is a scholarship app. Did your student submit a scholarship app?

Did you submit the FAFSA? You should be able to login as an admitted student and see when they received the FAFSA. I believe it takes 6 weeks or so for Radford to process the FAFSA to determine any possible financial aid/merit aid award package.

She received a Merit Award letter yesterday. $8,000 per year, with 36 ACT and 4.4 weighted GPA, rigorous course load, volunteer hours, leadership roles but no sports. We are out-of-state. Now I’m curious if there is second round or if that is likely to be her final offer? (We will not be eligible for need-based aid at Radford.)

Hope someone else finds this information helpful.

Congratulations to your D on her acceptance and scholarship. Radford is a beautiful area, and the students and faculty are authentic and awesome.

What do you need your net costs to be?

What is her major and career goal?

Is she a likely NMF?

If you need large merit, why isn’t she applying to schools that would give her HUGE merit for her stats???

She’s applied to many schools that will give her significant merit for her stats. My sister is pushing Radford because it is her alma mater and just will not let it go. She’ll likely be going elsewhere unless Radford suddenly comes up with a lot more money. She missed our state’s NMF cut-off by a couple of points.

Radford is the lowest ranked of VA public universities so for these stats you should expect more money - unless they’re not expecting her to come. (8k for these stats is a joke).
Has she applied to UAlabama? For these stats she’d get a near full ride.

Reading through their scholarship listing they disburse approximately 1.6 million in scholarships. In the big scheme of things, it looks like Radford does not have a lot of money to give. I do not anticipate seeing any full tuition or substantial scholarship money coming from them.

OOS tuition/fees are $23,292 -8000 = 15, 292
In-state tuition/ fees are $11,210

As other’s have stated, don’t simply look at how much money others are giving, look at what the net cost of attending school will be and if that net cost aligns with how much your family is willing to pay for college

She has a 36 ACT and higher than 4.0 GPA?

Radford is in a pretty part of the state. Does the school have some special program your daughter is interested in studying? Do they have an honors college?

You are OOS…don’t expect Redford to fully cover the difference between OOS and instate costs.

I’m not sure this one is worry worthy unless your kid really wants to go there.

With a 36 ACT and her GPA, there are other colleges where she should garner merit aid…assuming she applied.

You are letting your sister drive your daughter’s future?

What state do you reside in? What about those state schools? It may be a nice area, but Radford is one of the lowest ranked state schools within VA.

fairfaxgator, No, obviously I am not letting my sister drive my daughter’s future. The only reason I mention my sister is because she is the sole reason that my daughter even considered Radford. But thanks for your concern. I assure you it is unnecessary.

36 ACT = full ride at many schools

Where all did your daughter apply? With those stats she’d get huge merit at some schools, but some deadlines have passed.

If your sister “will not let it go,” hand her a pamphlet about 529 accounts and invite her to open one for your daughter and deposit generously to make the school affordable.

That often spells disaster for OOS students. Too often those schools are full of instate suitcase students.
