Worth the price?

Not at all. You’re paying 800+ but so are the other 3 people. Some of the rooms don’t let in a lot of light. The kitchen is small (you’ll have to schedule times or do a lot of dancing around to get dinner done) and you have to keep most of your non-perishables and dry foods in your small room. The plus side is that it’s close to a lot of your classes, the SLC and the gym and hopefully the wifi is finally set up bc last fall I heard they still didnt put it up in Ragans. The walls are thin so if your roommate likes to blast their music or tv, good luck. Not only that you can hear your neighbors across the hall and next door. If you’re near a stairwell you’ll go crazy hearing the stomping and slamming of doors.

I was there during summer but I didn’t let it bother me too much bc I only had one class that was scheduled one day a week so I slept in late a lot. I also got lucky with nice roommates, not everyone is that lucky though. If all those flaws were during a full schedule that would’ve sucked.
It’s not terrible at all it’s just not worth it in my opinion. I’m sure many will argue against me but it’s my opinion as I’ve lived in that hall and currently am off campus.

It’s $820 a month ($3280/semester), and it’s only going to go up in cost next year. You might be paying $850 a month next year.

I would definitely have to say no. It’s no coincidence that all my friends that live there this year are trying desperately to find off-campus apartments for next year. While the apartments are 3 or 4 bedroom apartments, the rooms are pretty tiny.

If you’re limited to living on-campus, it’s not a terrible choice… it’s just kind of overpriced for what you get (as are pretty much all of FSU’s dorms, really).

My son did well there. His room was actually a three person room and he had one side to himself with a bathroom. He had one great roommate and one weird but tolerable. It was expensive but it worked out well until he came home one day and walked in on the double stabbing that occurred there last year (boyfriend and girlfriend, not Ted Bundy.)
It is smallish but I believe they had a ping pong table set up at times…

also, he really appreciated not having to worry about parking.

wtztu,
do you know which room (A, B, or C) your son roomed in? I’m choosing my room Monday, and would love to get a three bedroom apartment and hopefully have that one side to myself as well :P

wtztu, do you mean that your son didn’t have to worry about parking because he didn’t have a car? Or just that he didn’t have to worry about parking his car at Ragans?

Because Ragans has one of the worst parking setups on campus. The entire Wildwood/Traditions/Ragans area has a huge parking problem. There’s a small lot outside the main Ragans building that’s for students (about 15 parking spots) and that’s all that Ragans has. The other options are the parking garages.

he did have the “C” room. unfortunately, he can’t remember the actual number of the room. he said possibly 1401 but again he doesn’t know for sure. maybe you can find someone living there now to ask.

I’m not suggesting parking was good there…just that you didn’t need to find a parking space to get to class everyday. he pretty much left his car in the parking garage–taking it out later in the day so he knew he’d get a spot when he came back.

My son was in a 3 bedroom at Ragans last year too. They are the rooms at the end of each floor. Don’t think you can request it. He had to share a bathroom but could use the other if needed. He was not in the building with the stabbing!

This year housing is letting returners choose which room they want, depending on credit hours, which is why I’m asking.
