**Raise My Verbal Score?**

I've taken the SAT twice. Highest was 630. How can I get my score in the 670-720 range? Just do a crapload of flashcards? I don't have so much trouble with passages as I do with vocabulary. On the last one I took, there were a couple where I didn't know what any of the choices meant. :(

THANKS!

come on! anyone??

As cheesy as this sounds, you have to constantly remind yourself that the answer is in the passage. Often times, you forget about this and you try to make up answers based on information that you "think" is in the passage. Also refer back to the passage for every single question. Don't ever assume that you know enough about the passage and therefore you can answer a question without looking back (unless the question does not require looking at the passage).

he said he needs help with the vocab, not the passages. Do practice tests, they help.

Vocab problems are easy to remedy, if you've got the will power. Just go and memorise the Barron's 3500 list or something similar.

No! Don't waste your time memorizing endless vocabulary lists- there's very little practical value; for CR, I would reccomend Grammatix.

I went through the Barron's 3500 in a week, spending less than 30 minutes a day. Is that too much time to waste?

Yes, that's way too much time. Should be spending around 30 min a week...

heythatslife, the fact that you can go through 3500 words in less than 4 hours and know all of it is amazing. 30 minutes a day is not a lot at all. I used to spend 30 minutes doing about 120-150 words, because I'd have to keep flipping through until I knew them.

Im gonna guess you have to pay for Grammatix?

Well, my opinion is that you can't rely much on Grammatix for every problem. Some you either know it or you don't, because there is only one right answer. The best way to do this....well whats seems to be helping me a lot, is to go through almost all of the old tests and write down vocab words you don't know. Once you do this, it gets obvious that some words keep reappearing =).
