Raise SAT score 600 points within 4 months?

Guys I really need your suggestions.

Here is my June SAT Score:

Mathematics : 610
Critical Reading : 430
Writing : 460
Essay : 08

I took June SAT without any preparation. I'm retaking it on November. I know its really hard to increase 600 points within 4 months. But I will try my best to increase my scores.

Any suggestions to prepare for November SAT ? I really wanna get 2100+ in SAT. I'm so frustrated with June SAT.

yeah its possible if you focus on your sat. Math and Writing are easy to improve to mid 700s so thats already 450 points 150 jump on reading at 430 is not that hard. just memorize words and read a lot during break

Since you had no preparation at all, surely you will increase your scores once you will get to know the test better. Get all official practice tests you can and work on your skills. If you are a good student in general then I can assure that you will increase at least by 500.

You will need:

 • a guide for writing section to get familiar with the rules they are testing (12 rules and you know it all, I used McGraw Hill’s book, you can choose a guide of your own). Then just practice on College Board tests;
 • to review what kind of problems are causing you troubles in Math and practice on them, then practice on the practice tests;
 • to improve your vocabulary. Everyone likes Direct Hits in here. Learn all the words from there and then read good material;
 • to practice on reading passages. Again, choose a guide to learn what SAT’s CR is usually testing and then practice and start noticing the patterns. All the answers are in the text.

Your score was low because you didn’t know the test and what SAT is testing. After practicing on College Board tests you will start to know it and your score will increase.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot MoonTuHon and TigerSteps. Your suggestions are really helpful.

I’ve McGraw Hills and Blue Book. Although I’ve never been through them :frowning:

@ TigerSteps :

For Writing I’ve McGraw Hills. I think thats gonna help me.

For Vocabulary, I’m unable to manage Direct Hits. In our country it’s pretty difficult to manage. Is there any alternate book?

Again thanks for your suggestions guyz. Btw, did you maintain any routine for SAT study?

For vocabulary I didn’t use Direct Hits personally, I learnt all the words from McGraw Hill’s book and then practiced in [Number2.com :: Free Online Test Prep](http://www.number2.com/), which is free.

My daughter raised her score 440 points from the January test date. Really no hardcore prep, just took lots of practice tests in the two weeks leading up to the June exam. She used the PR book and I think also the blue book. Really, though, repetition and familiarization are key. Make sure to review incorrect answers and understand why you got them wrong. For CR, underline key points of the passage as you go along. She also tried skimming the questions before reading, which she said helped. Btw she went from a 1770 to a 2210. Pretty happy but Math was only a 680 so she’ll probably retake to bring that above 700. As I said at the beginning, practice, practice, practice, and read, read, read! Good luck!

Thanks again, TigerSteps. That link is really useful.

@ ejcclc : your words are really inspiring. I used to think SAT might be easier like all other exam, and I might get a top score on it. But after getting the score I’m totally speechless (I thought I will do great without prep, now I realize I was so wrong).

I hope for a great prep according to the suggestions of all of you guyz. :)

remember that the score increase will be gradual so you wont make nig jumps after tests but gain points over time

@ivyaspire Are you going to be a junior or senior next year?

@joshrylin Senior.

honestly for critical reading, just read a whole bunch (i didn’t do this but general consensus says this helps) and DEFINITELY give silverturtle’s guide a chance http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/955109-silverturtles-guide-sat-admissions-success.html</a> . it worked wonders for me

^what he said. My daughter read Silverturtle’s entire post and it definitely helped.

@satboy707 I’ve found the pdf copy of Silverturtle’s. Hope its gonna be helpful :)
