Raising CR and Writing

I'm an Asian so I got a 790 math, 650 CR, and 630 Writing. I really need help rasing both my CR and Writing, what should I do? To get ready for the SAT I in March I took 8 Practice Tests using the blue Collegeboard book but my scores didn't really change and there was no one to grade the essay portion. I have this summer to get ready. I would really like to raise both by at least 100. Thanks

rather than just taking tests, go back and see what you got wrong

get a princeton review book and read through it

The best way is to read!!!
But if you don't want to read (like me..) than go to a prep course class and do whatever they tell you to do...
I hear that 200+ is guaranteed.. But u have to remember that you cannot gain more than 200 points after the prep course class without studying on your own afterwards..
People that got above 1500 on the old SAT say that you should study at least 4-5 hours individually after each day you have finished the prep class (which i am going to do)
Good luck and best wishes!

for writing, remember, always pick the shortest answer!

that 200+ thing is such a waste of money. they won't give you your money, back they'll offer you even more classes which will be a waste of time

I increased in verbal w/o reading. All I did was read the entire passage instead of reading the questions and trying to infer it through the passage. Try reading the passage and see how u do.

writing-get a reference grammar book. take the practice test w/o a time limit and "open book" use your grammar book to help you along the way (if its indentifying errors if that's your weak point) the more exercises you do, the easier and quicker it'll become on the real day.

I got lucky with interesting reading passages and raised my 610 in March to 710 in May. I think the best thing like said before is just to read the passages all the way through quickly. SAT is timed perfectly to let you do so.

Writing, I'm still trying to catch the mistakes in the MC. I got a 59/80. I can catch mistakes at home in the blue book, but can never catch them on the test.

lol. ur asian so that automatically means ur math-person? lol.

yes, read. and write a lot as well. just blogs, whatever. instead of internet shorthand, write it as if you were writing an essay. that would help a lot, as would constructing arguments. a good idea might be to go to a quotations page, choose a random one, and try to come up with a thesis for it quickly. i.e. "life is something that happens when you can't fall asleep" --- (make a question) do you agree with what it suggests?

(my interp: you must be active in life to really 'live' - and then find three examples.)

I don't see how reading helps CR. You don't answer questions at the end of your novel. But I'm sure it will help you increase your reading speed.

Well, atleast what I do is go straight to the questions and start answering. I look at the question. Look at the line reference. Read a little before that and a little after. And I've got my answer. By the time you get to that "what's the tone?" questions, you'll already have an idea of what it is. It is a good idea to skim around. Reading the passage is a waste of time unless you actually can read fast.

I don't get what yall are like "I'm an asian". LIke that matters? Is the SAT going to raise or lower your score because of your ethnics? Psh, please.

I agree with ebony on writing in correct, coherent english on the internet. It is WONDERFUL practice. Plus, it looks nicer.

I thought it was just stereotypical for an asian to have high math scores. I'm sorry if i offended anyone.

That post was highly offensive to Asians, pickleme.

I'm very sorry. I'll never do it again.

give the guy a break, we all have our stereotypes
