Raising GPA from 3.4

I'm a junior in high school and I have a 3.4 gpa. Is there any way I can bring this up to a 3.7 by college application time? I really want to bring it up, I thought I was doing well in school, with mainly As and Bs and a C in pre-calc (semester grades) but apparently not. I'm also in the IB program if that has any impact.

I assume your algebra grade was similar to your precalc. This is an elementary calculation you should be able to run yourself.

3.7 * 3 = 11.1 (3.7 GPA over 3 years, assuming the same number of credits each year)

3.4 * 2 = 6.8 (3.4 GPA over 2 years assuming same number of credits each year)

11.1 - 6.8 = 4.3 (GPA needed to get to 3.7 Cum)

If your 3.4 GPA (and wishful 3.7) are based on a 4.0 unweighted scale . . . no, even if you get straight A’s, you will NOT be able to raise your GPA to a 3.7 in the next year when you have to apply to college.

Erin’s Dad: OP needs to figure out by semester, not culm year.

Here’s what I figured out. YOu have 4 semesters avg at 3.4 GPA

You want to see if after 7 semesters you can get to a 3.7 GPA.

results of 1st 4 semesters: 4 x 3.4 = 13.6
goal of all 7 semesters: 7 x 3.7 = 25.9

performance needed in remaining 3 semesters: 25.9 -13.6 = 12.3. Divide 12.3/3 semesters = 4.1

In an unweighted scale, you can’t get to 3.7. The best you can do is 3.66 if you get all As from here on out.
