so i'm officially attending FCLC next year. i like reading things about Fordham, it seems to pass the time till i finally get there quicker. so how about we post random things we like about Fordham, Lincoln Center or Rose Hill, and maybe people who are currently attending can join in and tell us about things not to miss and such. i'll start:

so i'm a new member of the Lincoln Center class of 2015 and i applied to Fordham kind of as an after thought. its funny that it started out as such a safety and now i'm so excited to go. i really like the location of the Lincoln Center campus as well as the apartment style dorms. i hear there are possible views of Central Park and/or the Hudson River? sounds like a great deal to me, i've heard people describe the dorms as equivalent to upperscale manhattan apartments at the fraction of the price. i've always wanted to live in the city so that sounds like a dream come true.

anyway, i'm interested in what everyone else has to say!

Meg is right. Also, if you’re going to live in NY, you should know that it’s often called the North River (that’s what Hudson actually named it).

Wow, really? I hear North River all the time. Maybe it’s because my dad’s a captain on the Harbor and they exclusively call it the North, but I’ve also heard others call it that, too.

I always perceived calling it the Hudson as a touristy or “official” thing, but I guess it just depends on who you ask.

I grew up right outside NYC and never heard the term North River…but…Wikipedia to the rescue:
“The term North River fell out of general use for most of the river’s 300+ mile course during the early 1900s. However it still retains currency as an alternate or additional name among local mariners and others as well as appearing on some nautical charts and maps.”
BillyMc - This may explain why your dad knows it as North River even though I don’t think it is the commonly used name.

Makes sense. Though a lot of other people I know in New York use the term, too. And whenever I’m talking to someone and say we’re going across the North River, they usually know what I’m talking about. It only makes sense… I mean, there’s the East River, too. That didn’t get a person’s name slapped on it later.

It might be more common in working class areas? Or maybe that’s just a coincidence, as far as people I know who know the term, since most New Yorkers I know are working class. Interesting, I thought it was pretty widespread.

regardless, i think its great that my dorm may have a view of the river. whatever it may be called haha. now that we’ve settled that, are there any other things that in your opinion make Fordham (especially LC) worth attending? i guess what i’m looking for are little quirks that i can fall in love with and make my decision easier.

or really any additional information at all, i’ve scoured these threads and Fordham’s site but i just want to know more haha. to me, this is the most exciting part of my college search, talking about and getting pumped to attend my future school. now that the ball is in my court so to speak and the stress is over for the most part, i can enjoy the knowledge that i’m finally moving on to bigger better things

well i’m going to the spring presidential preview on april 16th and i am pretty excited for that. and yeahh from the pictures i’ve seen online, the dorms look amazing. definitely a plus

I skipped all of the welcome stuff. I went to the very last thing and my director/organizer thing flipped on me telling me that they’ll contact me in a few weeks and I’ll have to make it up and blah blah blah.

i attended the spring preview at LC today, it was great. thanks to those who recommended Fr. McShane’s speech, it was really impressive and made me feel like he and the Fordham administration as a whole care for the students. attending this event really sealed the deal for me, i was impressed with just about everything.

now i feel i can finally stop bemoaning my NYU waitlist status and be happy and proud to go to FCLC next year. thank you to all of you guys who helped me through this decision making process. to quote Fr. McShane, its been a “pilgrimage” but fortunately, this pilgrimage finally ended well.
