Random poll: Favorite music artist

Just thought I'd throw something random out here because life needs randomness!

Who is your favorite music artist or group and why?

For me, I'd go with Andre Tanneberger, often called ATB. Every song he does is different in style, yet his trademark sound is on all of them. Not a whole lot of artists can do that. For the most part, the music falls under the trance genre. Andre Tanneberger is from Germany so I'm not sure how popular he is here.

Stars (a group from Montreal, Canada).
I can't really describe why I like them--they have strong enough lyrics, and their sound is absolutely captivating. It's described as "orchestral pop" or something like that.

Well, my favorite is the band, Green Day. They're just awesome in every way. Great lyrics/sound, very original.

Heh, not to put you down, Fuzz, because I like Green Day, too, but they aren't exactly original.

Everyone, you need to download music from these bands immediately.

The Ramones (the original punk band)

The Rolling Stones (the best rock music ever made)

The Strokes (the best indie rock band of the 21st century)

The Doves (amazing indie new wave that no one's heard)

PS: I will say, to Fuzz's credit, that Green Day did a fantastic job of reviving the rock opera with their latest album. Too bad their lead singer is an arrogant jerk who can't sing.

The Strokes (the best indie rock band of the 21st century)

I would say second best, only to the WHITE STRIPES, who are AMAZING. But props for recognizing the Strokes, who put out some of the funnest, most listenable alt/garage/new-wave rock out there.

Count in:

Franz Ferdinand

the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Karen O's voice is so sonic and strong its like a punch in the face--in a good way; the guitar man and drummer are tight)

the Arcade Fire (Canadian band putting out some beautiful music)

the Black Keys (Ohio band who put out excellent blues-garage rock)

Rufus Wainwright (beautiful, beautiful voice with some of the best, most beautiful music to come out in awhile)

If you wanna go mainstream, Kanye West and Coldplay are two successful, well-known artists who are actually pretty good.

I hate Green Day, by the way. I don't think they're bad, they put out decent songs, but they are not the artists I look to when I want alternative garage rock. There are better, less known bands out there.

wow. I really love every genre, but if I had to choose I'd pick.....

PINK FLOYD

I love the slow spacy sound and the music is like nothing I'd listened to before. They are true pioneers in music, I can't really put my finger on my I like them. Have a Cigar, Money, Signs of Life, Confortably Numb and Learning to Fly are my favorite songs.

Other tops:

John Denver
Bob Marley
Billy Joel
Rush
ACDC
LEd Zepplin (at times)
Coldplay
Frou frou
The Shins
The Fray
The Killers
The Offspring
Kanye West
Alicia Keys
Lauren Hill
Bethoveen
Bach
Adrea Boccelli
Whitney Houston

at the moment?

Dragonforce. Reason? Finish listening to their new album "Inhuman Rampage" and youll need new eardrums because of the shattering speed and ridiculous guitar work.

I love Billy Joel. The music is just great, his lyrics are wonderful and his band is terrific. I saw him in concert the other night and he's retained so much from his young days, although I can only say this from what I've listened to of his albums. He's just classic.

Peals: I actually don't listen to the White Stripes regularly. Its great music, definitely, but not my type of scene for some reason. The music doesn't get under my skin like The Strokes do. I like Franz Ferdinand, but they aren't a favorite. I do adore the Yeah Yeah Yeahs like none other. Arcade Fire is good, but I feel the same way about them as I do about the White Stripes for some reason. Do you listen to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah? They are coming to my town! And you should listen to Keane. They are like Coldplay-turned-indie. Oh, and don't hate Green Day for being popular. Red Hot Chili Peppers are popular now, doesn't mean its not killer music. If you are going to hate Green Day, hate them because they are dumb. Or at least Billie Joe is.

Jekkyl: I love you. Let's be best friends. I adore Pink Floyd and can't believe I forgot to mention them. The video for The Wall changed me. I also love Frou Frou (listen to Imogene's solo stuff, its killer), The Shins, The Fray, and The Killers. AND Andrea Bocelli is my effing hero.

Jesse: Billy Joel's "Piano Man" is my quintessial drunk song.

john lennon/beatles and pink floyd

fallout boy right now...the lead singer grad from my hs...so we got to see them a lot before they became big

The Beatles

Ted Leo and The Pharmicists.

2 Pac

Honorable Mention:
TI, Motorhead, N.E.R.D, Bone Thugs 'N Harmony, Usher

At the moment I listen to alot of Elliott Smith, Rilo Kiley, Matt Costa, and Jack Johnson.

My favorite artist would have to be Elliott Smith. His lyrics are awesome and sings the mood of his lyrics very well.

Ahh I was just going to say Elliott Smith. favorite artist for sure. he can change your life in a whisper. absolutely amazing.

Stevie Wonder.

Honorable Mentions: Michael Jackson, Kanye West, Jimi Hendrix, Outkast, Red Hot Chili Peppers

Rage Against the Machine

My fave band of all time is Incubus.
Other favorites: Coldplay, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beck, The Strokes, Soda Stereo, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Bloc Party, Death Cab, Rilo Kiley, The Shins, The Postal Service, The Used, Air, Depeche Mode, The Doves.
