Random Question thread

I totally would, but it smells and smokes a lot! (it is a bbq!) Not that the smell is bad (actually, it’s amazing), but I don’t think it’s suitable to cook inside the dorms.

With a bbq grill stand, that’s a different story :)

ok we shall make one at mudd. and i totally meant to type to see*

About Asian food:
I just had dim sum at the New Capital Seafood Restaurant in San Gabriel. It’s really good and cheap but not very close. Afterwards my friends and I went to the 99 Ranch in the same plaza and stocked up on food for spring break (since the Hoch won’t be open).

new question! (sorry if I seem like spamming)
What’s the internet speed(both ethernet and wireless) in the dorms??

you can test it here:
[Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test](http://www.speedtest.net/)

Just did a quick speedtest.net test on my desktop with ethernet in my room, results:
Download: 57.97 Mb/s
Upload: 0.55 Mb/s

NICE!
A better than expected download speed.
Though I don’t know what is up with the horrible upload speed, although it doesn’t matter for me cuz I basically don’t upload

back to food…

About the kitchens in some of the dorms, are there utensils you can use there? If so, what’s there?

You’re getting down to some really detailed questions there  I think it depends alot on which dorm specifically.

case dorm has a pretty well equipped kitchen (open to anyone in the dorm). I won’t make a detailed list though, if there’s a particular item you’re thinking of, I can check if it’s there

sontag suite kitchens are well equipped too, looks just like a medium sized house kitchen, I spent a lot of spring break cooking meals there with friends (since the hoch was closed)

does it have the basic utensils such as pots, fry pans, and knives??

Yep, there are several pots, pans, and knives, in an assortment of sizes too!

HAHAHAHAHAAAAA
I actually laughed! :P

well u never know :p

New Question!!
Is there some kinda tech center on campus where I can bring my computer to if it has problems. And would it also have softwares such as Windows, Adobe Creative Suite, Mathematica, etc, I can download, or would have I to buy all that. (I know some schools provide such softwares)

The CIS department is what you describe, and yes, for a lot of software we have institutional licenses.

Check out:

In addition, once on campus, ask most any student about the Network (or find me during Orientation, I’m a sponsor).

Cool!
Is it mac friendly?
I use a macbook right now, but since it’s 3 1/2 years old, I’m gonna replace it soon. I was thinking of switching to a pc netbook, but the new macbook pros are tempting too.

yes, the campus is mac friendly. iMac and macbook pro user here.

“I use a macbook right now, but since it’s 3 1/2 years old, I’m gonna replace it soon. I was thinking of switching to a pc netbook, but the new macbook pros are tempting too.”

yeah, my mbp is about that old. i’m on my 2nd battery, 2nd right fan, 2nd wireless card… and it freezes every few hours now… also wiping indexing data sometimes. it is about time for a new computer. the new mbp (13") look pretty sweet but it is still a bit pricey.

(while at mudd my imac went through 1 hdd, 1 motherboard, 2 power supplies, 1 screen… either i worked it really hard or i just had really bad luck)

the new 13 inch is still a core 2 duo though. (even though they did bump up the clock speed quite a bit for the same price)

yeah. the battery on my macbook is basically dead. It can only last like 10 minutes. But otherwise, works pretty well.

How important is it to have a nice laptop as freshman? Or a laptop at all? I’m using my mom’s old laptop and I’ll be surprised if it lasts much longer.

noone needs a super fancy laptop, but you probably want a laptop you can count on. I guess if the one you’re planning to use dies or breaks, you could get a new one then instead of now. what kind of laptop is your moms?
