do we need to get a physical exam before entering college?

I don't think so, though I know pretty much every college requires that you have certain vaccinations (like meningitis, that's a big one).

Unless you're going to some sort of academy (military) no, you don't. You do need the vaccinations though, unless you're religiously opposed.

Vaccinations aren't even always necessary if you aren't living in the dorms.

absolution not.

no. but you might as well. you will be living away from home...its probably a good idea to know where you stand health-wise.

no you don't.

no, but you do have to get shots, like TB and meningitis.

not necessarily.
I'm not getting any vaccinations.

Pretty much a terrible idea. Hopefully, no else acquires a disease from you.

There is not a large risk for non-international students who are not living in the dorms. Anyway, if you actually look at the numbers some of the things like meningitis are blown a bit out of proportion (they just aren't that common). I'm not required to get any vaccinations and don't intend to....but then again I didn't get my kids vaccinated against chicken pox either (I think it's gotten so they go a bit overboard).

Wow, everyone's answers surprise me. A physical was definitely required at my school, as were several vaccinations and a TB test. Then again, I'm going to Macalester so there are a lot of international students who obviously have different types of health care. They might just require it from everyone to be safe.

But the requirements were all specifically laid out for us. If it didn't ask for any of that stuff on your health form, you don't need it.

i had to get a physical and vaccinations to enter my school...
but most people get an 18 year check up around the time they go to college anyways

I had to get a physical for the outdoor backpacking pre-orientation thing I'm doing, but otherwise I wouldn't have needed it.

You should check with your school. Richmond requires a physical + various vaccinations before entering as a freshman. And your health records have to be sent to the health center by a certain date, or they will put a hold on your account and you won't be able to register for classes until the forms are sent in.

my Ds school required the forms, so if didn't have a physical in the last year, most Drs will do some sort of check up before they will answer some of the questions
