What’s the best way to remove a wasp nest? Found a huge one in our carport this am. Can’t believe I never noticed it!
Buy a can of wasp spray. They sell them at hardware stores. They spray around 20 feet and are very effective. Do this at night when they are all home. Wear protective clothing. We have done this many times. LOL one time the next was to far away. S took his airlift gun and shot it out of the eaves where it fell 30 feet down.
I would call a company to get rid of the hive but I’m a baby when it comes to stinging insects.
I’ve done wasp spray before, as we sometimes get ground wasps. It was pre-dog. This nest is 5-6" in diameter and nine feet up. Bit more worried about attacking it and unleashing the wasps on the dog! I assume poisoned wasps would be toxic to the dog, too.
One of my dogs was stung by a wasp near her eye. It swelled up terribly and she was on some sort of steroid medication for a week or so. IMO, nothing to mess with.
If you never noticed it, then perhaps it and its wasps were not bothering you and are not a hazard? If that is the case, it may not need to be removed.
But if you do need to remove it, here are some web pages on the subject:

Note that these pages describe several different methods.
Mr. B and our GSD were taking down wasp nests “organically” - like this. Mr. would either peel it off with a rake or shoot it down with a powerful blast from a garden hose. The dog did the rest - wasps were like flying candy to him! The first time I saw that routine I was terrified. Then I got used to this. But Mr. drew the line at the giant hornets’ nest in the backyard bushes … the dog dug it up, but Mr locked the dog in the garage, and that monstrosity was blasted with heavy duty wasp killer.
Our dearly beloved first dog was stung by a ground wasp and wound up at the vet. Not something I want to repeat.
The nest is in the carport-- we (including our new beagle, who is curious about everything and eats bugs, dirt and paper like they are fine culinary delicacies), are in and out of that area all day long. If the nest were in a less-trafficked area, I might not be so concerned. Since the nest is within a couple feet of our cars and ten feet from the most-used entrance to our house, that affects my sense of urgency to deal with it!
I’ve sprayed the nests with soapy water.
I’d call in the professionals. Not something to mess with.
We have just got rid of several in-ground types, large ones as well. Need many cans of those sprayers, very difficult.
Random question- I was given a bounty of passion fruit. I eat them with the seeds but had several people tell me the don’t eat the seeds. Are you yes or no on eating the seeds?
The short answer is: Yes.
However, to me, if I eat whole fruit with seeds, it does introduce loose stools at the best, some times more serious. If you do not, don’t worry about it.

To me, passion fruit is very tart and acidic. H says his food service lab had to add lots of water and sugar to make it palatable.
I’ve always loved the glowing green look of that vintage uranium glass. Is it safe to drink from? I’m thinking of mead, nothing too acidic. Maybe @BunsenBurner has an idea…
Why do the fashion blogger women stick forward one leg in a contorted position? I swear, it looks so weird! One woman addressed it in her blog and said it was the most attractive, slimming pose. Um, no it is not! Have you noticed this?
Same principle behind photographing models from a lower angle. Makes them look longer and slimmer. When I catch some red carpet moment and the gals walk up and slide into the pose, yeah, my eyes roll a little.
I think the leg movement, if I am envisioning what you are talking about correctly, also puts the body in a type of 3/4 view which is done for slimming purposes.
They are standing facing the camera, sticking one leg forward, angled outward, but legs apart. ?? I’m used to seeing people stand angled toward the camera a bit and not straight on - this is different. It reminded me of when something is “in” so everyone does it. But they shouldn’t lol.
I’m kind of surprised when high school girls, posing for prom, put one hand on their hip and really roll their shoulders back, thereby sticking out their bust.
