I’ve used pecans before, and probably will again today. It’s time to cut a lot of basil at my house!

I typically use pecans when I don’t have expensive pine nuts. Walnuts give me a rash in my mouth and I prefer the taste of pecans, anyway.

When my basil is ready I’m going to try pesto with a different nut. Anyone try cashews? My D is allergic to a lot of nuts and I know she can eat cashews.
Update on soapy coffee- I did a good cleaning of the machine plus put in a new charcoal filter. So far I have not had soapy coffee again.

The pesto I made today with Pecans came out GREAT- I might use them exclusively from now on! I toasted them up in the oven first.

Cashews will give you a very rich, “buttery” pesto. I’ve used them, but prefer walnuts.

All these varieties of pesto sound delicious!

Yummmmm . . . . pesto . . . .

I just had the weirdest thing happen…
I was listening to a TED talk on my phone, and all of the sudden a BUNCH of old messages came through. I didn’t know I was “missing” these messages and some are hard to understand out of context, but I’m hoping I’m not missing more.
I have Verizon service and an Iphone 11. Has anyone else had this happen to them lately? The messages appear to go back as long as 5 days.

I had that happen today. Bunch of old messages. Not sure how old on all but some are more than 5 days old. My phone is very old though so I was blaming that. Also a Verizon customer.

Can someone post an EASY Pesto recipe? Thanks!

Pesto is super easy if you have a food processor. My problem is I don’t measure as I’ve made it so many times so don’t have measurements to give you. Pesto, however, is very flexible really. Fresh basil, garlic clove or two depending on batch size, olive oil, nuts that have been toasted - pine nuts are traditional but many nuts work, grated parmesan (grating your own is better or I use the food processor and then add the rest after that), salt to taste.

^^ I also do a little fresh lemon squeeze at the end before the last food processor spin - helps it to keep it’s bright green color.

Thanks! I have basil in the garden, but also in this really cool thing that really does keep it fresh (well relatively) for weeks. I have been amazed! I forgot to put the parsley in it and its gotten nasty. I’ll find a link for the gizmo that keeps it fresh and post it <<>>>

its called prepara. Its been incredible! Keeps greens very fresh!

Question about mobile smart phones:

My current phone has teeny tiny memory and I’m looking to upgrade. I have Verizon. If I buy a phone from a vendor other than Verizon, I understand I can buy it “unlocked” and Verizon will let me use that, correct?? I’m assuming it’s easier to find a good price on the phone I want by uncoupling the purchase from Verizon. Then, I take the phone into Verizon and just tell them to set it up, right??

TIA.

ETA: On Amazon, some phones are “international version.” Is that good, bad, or irrelevant to my only-US needs?

Verizon and Sprint use different technology (CDMA) than most of the rest of the world, which uses GSM.

So whatever phone you get, to have it work on Verizon, make sure it supports CDMA. Many phones support both.

Verizon often has pretty decent deals on new phones, so it’s worth checking them out. Verizon tends to focus on higher margin upper end phones, so if you are looking for a $100 smart phone Verizon probably won’t have much.

Pesto - my wife makes it and we freeze it and you can have it at anytime BTW.

O
Verizon phone - becareful of Amazon. Lots of fakes on there. I buy directly from the manufacturer these days
I have t mobile but haven’t bought from them in years. I bought directly from One Plus, Google - phone, and Motorola in last 10 years as an example. Well the Google phones I “did” buy from Amazon now to think of it. They had a great sale but the store was Amazon.

Just Google the phone and Verizon to make sure it works. Places like Best Buy usually have decent sales for them. Just checked. Many on sale plus it’s under the Verizon banner so you will know that it works with Verizon…

Best buy can activate it for you also https://www.bestbuy.com/site/questions/samsung-galaxy-s9-64gb-lilac-purple-verizon/6191413/question/011707ec-fdff-3b43-937e-514f9078dd9b. As an example.

@Knowsstuff: If Best Buy activates it for me, am I losing anything that Verizon would have done for me?

Nope. But call and check with them if you need more information. Best buy is a Verizon reseller. Usually get some discount if Best Buy does it. I activate myself by getting the Sim card or using my current Sim card and just putting it into my new phone. Once I had to call t-mobile and give them the number on the Sim card. I don’t use Verizon so make sure your old Sim card fits the new phone. If getting an updated phone with new features then it pays to get a new Sim card but they can transfer the contents if needed for you. Also if you have a memory card you might want to put that in your new phone or get a new type.

If none of this makes sense to you then just let them do it!!! Lol.

Good Luck. ???

BTW - I personally get international phones. They are called unlocked phones. I can use on any vendor and on any network. Verizon doesn’t want you do do that. They want you locked into their phones. Sometimes they might not unlock the phone for you (they can give you a code). If you don’t travel a lot (not these days) and your phone has been fine and just looking to upgrade then I wouldn’t put a lot of thought into it.

This is just to show you different stores with Verizon phones. I have the Google 3a. It was on sale but might be discontinued. One of the best phones I have ever had and the camera is one of the best on the market. Think the 4 a is out etc.
