Who can share the alternative way to use this site when your device will not load the pages? I’m having hella trouble on my home laptop and sometimes another desktop recently getting pages to load. I have had to revert to only using my phone often and that’s not my preferred way if I have more than a minute or two to explore.

@CC_Mike ???

Anyone else having more trouble recently???

I’m not having trouble with this site, but it does occasionally happen to me with some other sites. I always use Google Chrome as my browser, but when this happens, I switch to Firefox and the problem pages load just fine. YMMV.

Try a different browser.

Note that Chrome, Chromium, Edge, Opera, and Brave all use the Blink layout engine. Firefox uses Gecko, and Safari uses WebKit, so they may be more different from the Blink-based browsers in rendering behavior (including whether bugs in rendering show up).

I have not had too much trouble with the site lately with Chrome on Mac. There is an occasional lock up, but my computer is a bit underpowered anyway.

Trying another browser is a good suggestion. If you aren’t already on the “Light” theme, I would suggest switching for now. We’re working on swapping out a couple of systems on the site (registration, and ads) that should help improve the experience, but I’ll clearly telegraph when that is supposed to go out.

In the short term, you could also try installing an ad blocker like Ad Block Pro, but I would only suggest that as a last resort because… well ads do pay the bills. :joy:

No problem with ads most of the time. At least they aren’t visible. Just slow to load and SLOW to scroll - painfully slow.

I did try another browser today and it seemed to help a fair bit on a desktop.

How do you switch to “light”??

Does anyone use Magic Jack for their landline? Tell me about the service and how you like it.

I do, and have for years. Once I had my Dad and MIL learn to only call my cell, that number is only used for giving out to retailers. I am not sure if I need a new device because after a few minutes the sound is crackly, even after replacing the phones. But I don’t bother because I almost never answer.
One thing that I found annoying, when I actually made calls from that line, was that though they have both Caller ID and Call waiting, they don’t work together. If you are on a call, there is an indication that someone else is calling but there is no display of the name/number. If the phone was not engaged, the caller information was displayed/announced. If I was waiting for a specific call while chatting, I had to answer any incoming to see if it were my expected call.
I did call customer service at the time but they were less than helpful.
The price is right but if you don’t get good cell service in your home, I’d look for another provider.

So basically you don’t use your landline for anything other than incoming junk calls?

Yes, or the occasional pre-scheduled delivery notifications of the type ‘we’ll be there in 20 minutes’.

My DH and I were discussing this very issue yesterday. Like you, we have kept our landline so I could use it for junk calls and such. I do not want robo calls or political calls or marketing calls coming to my cell, so if I have to give a legitimate #, they get that and then we never answer it. There are maybe 3 people that still call the landline, but I’ve been encouraging them to use the cell. We might get rid of the landline, but its pretty cheap, and saves my sanity.

We still have our landline also. I prefer for pts to use that number and not my cell.

I’m not real attached to my cell phone, so if I don’t answer, the kids will call that number because they assume I am home.

Okay, is this a new “thing”? More and more often on our walks, DH and I are seeing (full) poop bags left on the side of the road, even right in front of yards. As in “There, I picked it up, now you dispose of it”. At first we assumed that someone probably came back eventually to grab them, but this isn’t the case! We have 2 labs and would never dream of not picking up and removing the bag. And we’ve seen this behavior both at home and in our beach house neighborhood.

Just curious if others have seen the same. Maybe I’m just getting old and crotchety.

It happens in my community also, as well as people not picking up after their dog. I live in a large townhome community, where there are dog stations all around the property, as well as two dog parks. As my last dog left us last summer, I have not been out as much. The community FB group has posts, at least weekly, about this topic. I love receiving an alert to a new post to the group, only to open it and see a pile of poop. :unamused: Don’t see the need for the visual!

Not old and crotchety! This bugs the daylight out of me. Here, it is even worse - folks bag the dog doo and then chuck the baggie to the side of the trail… oftentimes, it lands on the blackberry vines. No one in their sane mind would go into the prickly bramble to retrieve it. So here we are… Invasive species decorated with dog crap in biodegradable baggies. Just great!!! Not!!! Guess I am old and crotchety. :sunglasses:

I have too, but in my hood people actual do circle back for it.

I hate when people don’t pick up after their pets. Much more prevalent on hiking trails, in my experience

Oh gosh, nothing gets our neighborhood FB page more in a rage than dog poo!

Yes, I have seen some bags left at curbside. We have a neighborhood trail that is 1.5 miles long with 4 doggie bag stations and 5 total garbage cans and people still don’t take care of the poo!

Sort of catching them on camera don’t know you can do much because if they cared that you care they wouldn’t do it in the first place!!!

Dog DNA passports. :sunglasses:

Today I signed into my shopping email account as usual, no problem. After signing out, I cleared cookies (which I do somewhat compulsively) and went on to other things. Later, I tried to sign into my main email account (both are G) and was told I had to provide my date of birth. I signed out and looked to see if there was something going on with the email service provider.

It appears that the EU requires various services to verify age to make sure users aren’t minors (or maybe under 14, I forget) and the company has been doing the same in the US. I read of people being required to scan and upload their dr. lic. as proof of age, or of being required to make a small purchase with a credit card.

I’ve often given a false DOB for things such as liquor company sites that require the info before you can even browse. However, if G is requiring a dr. lic. for proof, that won’t work.

Has anyone else encountered this DOB requirement to continue using an old email account? Am I being silly for not wanting to provide it?

I’ve never encountered this. But I do find that when I clear cookies, or clean my cache, or whatever, I have to sign in to everything all over again. So I don’t clear cookies anymore.

A year ago on this thread, we were chatting about Serius radio in the car. So my “special deal” just expired and instead of charging me $6.44 a month, they charged me $21.94 for this month. Remembering my virtual friends’ advice on here, I called, allegedly to cancel. Just too much money, I said. Oh, have we got a deal for you! Only $11.60 a month! No, I said, still too expensive. Oh, have we got another deal for you! Only $10,32 a month! No, I said, still too expensive. Oh all right, they said. You can keep your $6.44 a month special deal for another year.

ETA: I wish my cable company were as accommodating.
