Is it true that if you choose to have your roommate randomly assigned to you, you may be assigned to live with an upperclassmen even though you are a freshman? I am considering random assignment but would like to live with someone else who is also a freshman and don't want to risk it if it's a possibility.

I’d like to know this too. Would want to be assigned with a freshman only.

What about me? I’m a transfer with only one semester of college, and I’m not sure that even those credits will count, so I am a freshman. I have a strong preference about being put with other freshman. Any way to indicate that on the form?

I have the same question! There’s no freshman-only housing, but does that apply to your actual roommate as well? It would be pretty weird if a senior was paired with a freshman…

I’m not sure about how it’s normally done but one of my freshman friends up there now got randomly paired with a junior. But I think they got placed there after two other people backed out.

Most of the time, they try to place you with other freshmen. Sometimes you may get roomed with a transfer student who is also new to the school. Very rarely would you be assigned a sophomore or upperclassman.

There isn’t anyway to “guarantee” a freshman roommate but you can sign up for one of the living/learning communities which I believe are only offered to freshmen.
