Hi guys I live in augusta and I'm very dissapointed with my sat scores I'm currently a second semester sophmore and I'm rank 1 but I expected myself to good on the sat because not be a big head but I'm rank 1/570 but I cant seem to pull my sat over 1700. I mean other val. Get like 2000 minumum and I go to a very good school witg competetive kids.
Here where I stand.
Math- around 670 I feel like I know it because I miss like 5 but I can't seem to get together the last things I don't know and it feels pointless to go over all of sat math for 3-4 questions
Writing- the essay is ok like I'm good at like around a 8-10 but I've done the sat boot camp and memorized countless rules but can't seem to recognize them on the test so my score is like a 570
Reading- I have been memorizing lists of words since like 2years and I've got about 300 most used words but they never come up. I have recently started reading like and hour everyday and have been doing so for a year but no improvements so I feel so frustrated.
GUYS WHO DID WELL ON THE SAT please give me some guidance as to books or tips please.
My dream school is georgia tech but even with rank 1 and 19AP classes I don't think a 1700 will work.......

What a shame your grade inflation doesn’t hide your bad SAT scores. Anyway, I’m not sure if I did “well,” but here’s a bit of my input.

Math: Just take practice tests? I got 680 and 640 on my first two tests without any studying but then for the third one I actually studied (shocker!) and got a 770 (-1 wrong… grr that curve). Two weeks before your test, take the math portion of the test in the blue book like four times. Bring all the problems to your math teacher and bug the ■■■■ out of them until they help you (alternatively ask a friend or just figure it out). I think math is truly the only part you can “master” since it’s like all objective.

Reading: Memorizing words is kind of moot. There’s really not much you can do here since you’ll forget the words in like a week. If anything, learn your roots. For the actual passages, I think you should just read through all of it at once instead of reading the questions first like everyone always says to do. If you truly care, perhaps downloading the dictionary app and taking bathroom breaks is an option for you, ahem.

Writing: Essay should have big words and be two pages long. Three examples are pretty much necessary for a 12. L2grammar is all I can say. Read all the ■■■■ like out loud to see if it “sounds” right when you’re doing grammar stuff.

Thanks for the tips but I don’t understand what you mean by “grade inflation” considering everone in my school, the other 500 something get the same"inflation" but I’m pretty sure they have to take into considerstion that its not easy to focus on the sat with 19 AP classes along with getting the highest grade in each and every one of them for the rank 1 status hopefully I can bring it up to 1900-2000 I think that will balance everything out !!!

Have you thought about taking the ACT? DD was an A student in honors and APs and only submitted her ACT to her ED school which she will be attending in the fall. Good luck to you.

Thanks ill definently look at the ACT over the summer because that’s what my teachers were thinking that if I’m better at school subjects I should try it

Any other tips anyone please help if possible

19 AP classes? You got under 1700 on the SAT and you got 3s or higher on each AP exam?

You need a SAT prep class and/or tutor. But seriously, you are a sophomore and took 19 AP courses already, and already took the SAT and got under 1700?

1700 - 670 = 1030 for CR and W, average of 515. That’s pretty bad - yet you already took both AP English classes?

Something is not making sense. Most sophomores could only take 10 courses over two years in HS, yet you report 19 AP courses.

^ a lot doesn’t make sense. That includes the writing in post 1.

I haven’t taken 19 lol I’m going to by the time I graduate. I’ve taken 6 so far
