I attend Saddleback, and I have heard that in many respects an AA from Saddleback, Santa Monica, Moorpark, is better than a BA or BS from a CSU. I doubt this is true obviously but what do you guys think? Do you think certain UC'S and schools like Pepperdine USC etc weigh which CCC you went to ??

I'd say the best are El Camino and SMC. Both are Los Angeles area schools.

Remember... SMC might have the most people get in, but they also have the most people get rejected.

SIGH

Saddleback is usually considered one of the better/best CCs for transfer, especially to UCLA and USC. However, this has less to do with the quality (although I'm from Saddleback and am happy with my experience), and more to do with the fact that they're just really committed to the transfer process. We definitely had one of the most progressive honors programs in the state (one of the first schools to sign on to TAP, etc) and the transfer office offers a lot of helpful opportunities (just watch out for some of the counselors, see below).

I don't think the universities consider or weigh which school you went to, but obviously, if the school offers more in the way of transferrable courses and other opportunities, those students may have an advantage. The UCs won't reprimand you for courses your school doesn't offer, but obviously, if you are able to complete everything, it reflects positively on you.

That said, no AA can replace a BA. The difference in workload alone is too great.

I'm excited to see someone from Saddleback around here. There aren't many of us. If you need help, let me know. By graduation I felt like I knew more than the guidance counselors there (and I probably did- I had to correct one of them when he kept miscalculating my GPA, which I needed him to sign off for UCLA. He tried to say that I had a 3.4, when in reality I had a 3.85. Consider yourself warned).

***Please disregard the rambling nature of this post. It's finals season. Too many papers. My sense of punctuation, grammar, and syntax is in dire need of restoration.

de anza/fhill no DOUBT. socal sucks. up here, de anza is the best hands down. almost every single teacher i've seen or talked to has a phD or equivalent work experience in the field to be teaching. the classes are engaging and its absolutely wonderful to find such a vibrant and diverse campus. with 22,000 kids, we're the largest CCC-not only that, our club council has the biggest allocation for activities in the nation (that's including 4-years). 1 million in the budget ANNUALLY. transfer statistics seriously speak for themselves.

"By graduation I felt like I knew more than the guidance counselors there."

^ I know that feeling well!

I'd say SMC, only because it's by the beach.

Location matters!

Remember... SMC might have the most people get in, but they also have the most people get rejected.

are you referring to UCLA?

not true, i know people w/ a degree from csu making a lot of money. Mostly in the sciences and engineering fields.

especially cal poly..........dvc is great .......highest transfer rates in the state......

Actually I believe it is true for both UCLA and USC.

a UCLA rep told me UCLA doesn't give priority to any particular CCC.

Some CCC do have such programs such as TAP, TAG, etc, while other smaller ccc don't have...

although most that i know have them...

I don't think DVC has the biggest allocation for activities in the nation. Many universities have millions of dollars in their student budgets.

the only ucla TAP program left up here i think is the honors TAP, where students get priority admission, but i really dont even think that those are that special, because it's not guaranteed. -btw i didnt say dvc, i said de anza, they're often confused; and i may be wrong, but this is an independant club council, so if not all four years, then probably at least all two years. :-)

Woops--I meant De Anza. I think we can agree that it's a sizable budget, but it just cant compare to universities.

MT sac pwns all those schools... cuz we have like 2 million kids attending!@

I think you can pick out the "worst" CCCs better than you can pick out the best. Some schools have extremely limited resources etc.

What about Pasadena CC? I can say its one of the hardest CC's in Los Angeles county!

PCC is pretty hard, I guess. All the students in my classes are having a pretty tough time with getting good grades, heh. I've only found that SMC receives more funds and is probably better. I also hear that it is harder than PCC.
