Finance, acctg, info system, marketing, IB, entreprenuer, management.

accting, finance, MIS, CIS, General BA, Marketing, Management, Entreprenuership, Intl. Business.

accounting, finance, MIS, Marketing, BA, IB, Entre.

Accounting

Finance

MIS

Marketing

IB

Entrepreneurship (although with this major you should create your own job!)

2 follow up questions

Would Law schools look down on accounting because it is the most vocational/practical of the majors?

What is the point of have an undergrad accounting degree if you only want to stay in college for 4 years (120 hours) and go to grad school, instead of staying in college for the 5 years it takes to be a CPA? Is accounting useless if you don't want to be a CPA?

Thanks and please keep ranking the majors :)

Accounting is like the science of business. It is a very practical, useful, and tough degree to obtain. You have many professional licenses to choose from besides CPA... CIA, CMA, CFM, etc.

Law schools like accounting undergrads who desire to study tax law.

CPA requirments are different per state and business school is looked down upon equally, no matter which major you go for. Is biz school really that harmful for lawschool, possibly, depends on the case, but if you do well on the lsat, you should be fine, or take extra english classes to show you no more than just numbers

Why is it I think accounting is a female major.. what is the gender split in the profession, anyone know?

I dont think accoutning is a female major. Im a girl accounting major and i feel like it is a field dominated by men. along with most other business. if u are a guy and u wanna be an accountant dont worry u are not alone.

"Why is it I think accounting is a female major.. what is the gender split in the profession, anyone know?"

You also probably think accounting is all numbers crunching also? Seriously I think it's about equal in terms of ratio, and accounting is a evolving profession.

ok so anyone else? rank the majors?

Accounting

Finance

MIS

Management

Marketing

Entrepreneurship

This is how I would usually rank them. But I guess it all depends, since job doesn't necessarily equal what you studied. For example, not all finance majors can become I-bankers and not all management majors can become consultants.

Can i ask is accounting degree useless if u r unable to get a CPA? Can u work in other financial sectors like banks, besides accounting firms, without getting a CPA and still able to get promoted?

Is MIS just basically computer work? Or could it be helpful for different IT careers based more on pure management? I am trying to pick a specific major before I go to orientation so if I did choose this what would be a good duel major to pick? If it makes any difference i am going to Maryland.

I heard that MIS is useless. If you like both business and computer, double major in finance and computer science instead.

Typically MIS majors have one of highest average starting salary of any business major.

damn straight MIS hast he highest salary, but something like Industrial engineerng would be more up your alley if you wanna go in that direction.

Management of any sort usually has the higher of the salaries because you also have a higher level of responsibility and most likely people skills.

Overall, finance is the most diversified major in the business fields other than econ. If I were you, I would do finance.
