Rank these schools overall please?

Fairfield, Loyola MD, Gonzaga, Creighton, Marist, Xavier, Providence

Creighton
Fairfield
Gonzaga
Loyola MD
Marist
Providence
Xavier

That’s using a common ranking called alphabetical.

Haha, not really what I was looking for but nice try!

Creighton / Providence / Gonzaga / Xavier

then

Fairfield / Loyola MD / Marist

Overall those are good schools if there is some specific program you are looking for then you might find one or more being significantly better like Nursing, Engineering, etc.

Right, my bad for not being specific, I’m thinking about majoring in biology and going to med school in the future

All are very good schools. I’m a fan of Creighton, but that’s just me. Have you visited them? Which one do you like best? Which community feels most comfortable to you? Is one more affordable than others? You are the one who will be living and studying there. You and your family will be the ones paying the cost. So what you think is much more important than any sort of general ranking.

I was just at Yale on business. It’s a reach for everyone and would have been a reach for my youngest as well. But they could have reasonably applied. Having been there and walked around the campus, I know they would have greatly disliked the environment (even though New Haven is really not as bad as is often portrayed). The buildings are beautiful, and students would obviously be bright and active. It’s just the kind of place they don’t like. It’s obviously a great school and ranked very high. For my kid, though, it would not have been a good fit and not highly ranked for them.

So go with what feels right to you, not what someone else ranks a little higher than some other choice. Their ranking will be based on their biases, just as my preference for Creighton is based on mine. (I do like Rhode Island too, so I’m a little more favorable to Providence too.)

Just work hard when you get there. Treat everyone with dignity and good will. Have some fun too. Good luck!

For pre-med the most important things are GPA and MCAT. I don’t think any of those schools are particularly known for grade deflation. If you have a better chance for research at any that would be a bonus.

Apparently you prefer Catholic colleges. Be aware that Marist is no longer Catholic.

Creighton has highest endowment

Gonzaga has the best basketball team

@TomSrOfBoston You are absolutely correct that Marist is no longer a Catholic college. But (at least from our visit a 5 or so years ago) the school’s Catholic roots can still be felt. For example there is a large church on campus and the school’s core curriculum reflects its Catholic heritage with required philosophy/ethics/theology courses. So while it is definitely independent, it is also easy to see how Marist would remain in the mix for a person looking for a Catholic college. Here is an article from the school paper from a couple of years ago. https://redfoxreport.com/2015/10/05/marist-holds-on-to-its-catholic-roots/

And to the OP – they are all fine schools that can get you where you want to go if you excel. I’d apply to all of them and then look hard at fit and cost (med school is expensive) before making a decision.

Creighton is the only one I am familiar with, but I know some alumni who are Dr.'s and are huge fans of the school. One of my best friends went there for undergrad and then went back to his home state for med school. Judging from his personality, I would be surprised if it was a cutthroat environment, because I think he would have hated that, and he is a superfan of the school. He probably graduated 20 years ago though, so ymmv.

TTG Ive visited Fairfield, Loyola, Marist and Providence so far. Overall I liked fairfieild the best, however, I wish they had a good basketball team like gonzaga, xavier or creighton.

I’ll add that Omaha is a nice city that seems to be doing very well. The main downtown restaurant/bar area is about a 15-minute walk from one end of the campus. It’s the Old Market area and has lots of old 19th-century buildings. The Creighton campus is sort of long and thin with most of the buildings off a walk that passes through them. The school hosts the College World Series, and it’s played in a new-ish stadium adjacent to campus. It’s all nice, and school seems to be on an upswing. Only downside, for me, is an elevated highway runs directly between the school and downtown. It’s not very visible from campus, but you can hear it. To get downtown and Old Market area you can easily walk along under the highway a few blocks down and a few over. It all seemed pretty safe except that one would generally not want to be walking back to campus late at night–still a city, not a bubble. I’ve only visited so I can’t speak to the culture, but I can second the above comment that alums I’ve met really seemed to have enjoyed the school and appreciate the opportunities that it provided. Good luck!
