Moving up a notch! And, "Jenna Bush's fiance is returning in fall to complete his MBA at UVA" (media reports)--well all right! That would be cool to see a little more present day Presidential action on Mr. Jefferson's grounds!

Haha, the Jenna Bush fiance thing makes me laugh. By the way, her uncle Marvin Bush went to UVA undergrad.

I wonder how UVA will fare in the next couple of years with a bunch of new buildings being built, much more professors being hired, much more research scholars being recruited, much more money being spent in its operating budget, and much more money being raised for its endowment via its $3 billion capital campaign. Will all that greatly improve the school's faculty resources, financial resources, and class size scores? I guess we'll have to wait and see. I think it's because of those 3 areas that UVA isn't more highly ranked. When I was a student in the 90's, UVA was ranked #17/#18. I think the budget cuts that happened 10 years ago greatly hurt Virginia schools in terms of resources plus the added pressure to add more students. Now that UVA is more stable and is able to control its finances and day-to-day operations (rather than the state doing it), it is finally recovering.

When I go back to Grounds these days, I'm envious of what today's undergrads have that I didn't have - like the JPJ basketball stadium. Dude, I really need to check out a basketball game there!!!

That's funny! Didn't know about Marvin Bush>>now I do!! It is such a wonderful school, and I'm from OOS! I matriculate in just about one week, thanks for saying the lovely things that you have about THE UNIVERSITY. Yes, do come to a basketball game--you'll have a ball!

Yeah, I need to work a UVA basketball game into my schedule.

Have a great time at UVA, and be sure to make the most of all the resources and experiences the school has to offer. Just because you don't belong to a group does it mean you can't take part or enjoy it. Though I wasn't in a fraternity, I enjoyed going to their parties, checking out black fraternity/sorority step shows, going to various ethnic and cultural events, Foxfield, VA Film Festival, VA Festival of the Book, a cappella concerts, having coffee with my favorite professors, etc.

UVA is a really cool and fun school.

i'm excited about comm school!

hmmmm, what's Foxfield??

Yeah Untitled, the Comm School looks like it's going to be awesome. Congrats by the way on you getting in. I meant to congratulate you by writing something on your Facebook wall, but I forgot.

JimmyJam, Foxfield is a bi-yearly horse race that most UVA students go to. Everyone dresses up and tailgates.

yawn

No surprises here. The ranking is very fair, imo, and I don't see it changing much in the future.

Globalist: Oh man, that's so important>>I gotta know about that stuff!! Is that out at Mont Pelier (sp)??? What else do I not know, but need to know,?? I know that is a broad question, LOL! But, I really want to get into the spirit of UVA and dress up too!
I'm not a "Dude" either. My CC name is misleading. My Bad!
My Dad's best friend (UVA grad) keeps alluding to a horse race in early fall that is oh so special. This must be it!! I've got my outfit ready to go!

Jimmyjam, I'm sorry about the "dude." I use it pretty generically no matter what someone's gender.

Re. things you need to know about UVA these days, I'm sure current students would be better sources of info than me at this point though I feel the essence of UVA is still the same.

Cavalier, eh, I don't give US News that much credence anyway.

Jimmyjam, we could tell you all this stuff up front, but you know what the coolest thing about going to college is? You get to find out for yourself.

slowly steps back

Thanks Globalist and Cav302
Yes! I understand..............
I'm there is just one week, yikes, slowly steps forward*********

"What else do I not know, but need to know,??"

shady grady, a "sketchy" store on grady ave., sells underage people alcohol.

go steam-tunneling! fun and dangerous.

UVa has a polo team, so you can dress nicely to go to polo matches from time to time. I've never been though.

Look forward to your first football game, it will blow your mind.

don't get into the college bubble. (this is ironic because I'm kinda in the bubble)

Get the cleo salad (and bagels) from Bodo's.

untilted, did I ever tell you about the time I went to shady grady with a friend and there was a cop behind the counter? lololol

Untilted, you should come up for the Harriman Cup in September. It's like a smaller Northern version of Foxfield but with polo. I really hope we kick Yale's arse this year. For some stupid reason, we had 2 Yalies play in the UVA team last year, because we were down some players, and of course, they're not going to play their best to defeat their own alma mater.

I remember a UVA thread a couple of years back talking about that Asian UVA kid that some CC people disliked because he drove around Grounds blasting music from his Porsche. Well, he'll be playing for the UVA alumni polo team this year at the Harriman Cup. I hear he's a pretty good player.

that was me *****ing about him, globie ;-)

Haha, I remember.

I haven't met him yet. Hopefully, he's nice in person. Apparently, he went to boarding school in England, and his dad is a mega-rich tycoon back in Asia.

Hey, it's all good as long as he helps us win. ;)

The money put towards new faculty researchers might change our US News ranking, as long as their methodology hasn't changed too much since last year.

We'll see. The numbers US News uses is a year behind. I wonder how this year's increased operating budget and smaller admissions rate will affect UVA's ranking next year.

You guys realize rankings mean next to nothing right...?
