Would it be practical to just rank the 4 nonbinding schools? I don't want to rank 8 because I'm not sure if I am committed to spending 4 years at a school just because I got a full ride there.

Many applicants do rank only the non-binding schools - which makes the competition extremely fierce to be matched with them. But certainly don’t rank a school you’re not committed to attending. If you go through past threads on this forum, you’ll find some posts from those who did and regret it.

maryleanne, if you’re not ready to commit to a binding contract with any college, via ED or NCM, then ranking the 4 non-binding NCM colleges is a practical option. You get to apply to 4 colleges, unlike REA or SCEA, and you don’t risk being denied admission. On the other hand, as scoutmom noted, many (maybe even most) QB applicants do rank the non-binding colleges because they have nothing to lose and of course they are the name brand colleges on the list. So your chances of being matched are substantially reduced.

Remember that the vast majority of QB applicants are admitted RD. Last year less than 10% of finalists were matched. Match is only one step on the Qb journey for an applicant so don’t put too much weight on it.
