My brother has an interesting situation I was wondering if you could give any advice on. He was in the top 5% at our old school, 4.0 unweighted GPA, 4.8 something weighted. But our new school won't weight the APs (6 total before his senior year) or honors (all the rest) he took at any previous school, for what reason I don't know. So he drops to like 40% ranking, because here they weight all honors and APs so basically any A or B student has a higher ranking than him even though he's taken the same courses.

Is there anything he can do about this? I do know its sort of late for the schools he applied EA to.

Ouch. The only thing I can think of is listing his ranking at both schools. I attended college full-time for the last two years of high school, and the high school refused to calculate these college grades into my GPA. When I filled out applications I listed both averages in the GPA box: "high school 3.5/college 4.0." I don't know whether the admissions officers took them both into account; all I know is that I provided the information. It may be your brother's best bet. If you think it's a significant part of his application, you might also be able to explain it briefly in the Further Information box at the end of many applications.
