Ranking questions

If someone was ranked 10th freshmen year of high school, do they have a chance at becoming valedictorian if they worked really hard and took all honors and AP classes for the next 3 years? Or are they too far behind to catch up?

That would completely depend on GPAs. At some schools, the Val’s GPA is significantly higher than the rest of the class; at others, the top 10-20 students may have closer GPAs. I would say it’s probably not out of the question, but it just depends on your school.

What is your point of this question? You’re a freshman and the classes we can take are so limited. They’ll be some kids that drop out. Junior year is when you ‘tear it open’ and challenge yourself. The fact that you’re even ranked 10/??? is great (at least top 10%0… Stop worrying about your class rank so early on. It’s the next 3 years that really matter. My school doesn’t even have ranks until sophomore year, but yes, you can still become valedictorian!

My school only has one AP Calculus class and the one year half the class got F’s for cheating. Guess what class all the senior valedictorian candidates were in? In other words, yes, you could get lucky. But top 1% of your class is top 1% of your class, so 9th or 10th place is obviously not that bad.

@EntranceExamGuy Woah, that’s a bit crazy… Mind private messaging me that story? Was it that bad of cheating?
