Ranking Schools

I applied to seven schools and am hoping to major in Aero/Astro Engineering. I am wondering how you guys and gals would rank these school, if I were to get into all of them. They are MIT, Purdue, RPI, Penn State, Rutgers, Stevens, and The Cooper Union.

I know you're excited about the possibility of what school you could attend but maybe you should wait until you get acceptances and then ask for some rankings. At that point you might also have some idea of cost of attendance which should be just as important as the quality of the school in deciding where to attend.

I've been accepted to most of them an I was asking for a ranking in terms of the academic standard of the school in the subject.

These schools are about as different from one another as the planets in the solar system. Forget about prestige and figure out which one of them is 'earth' for you and go there. I know a guy who was the bomb in his little town till he went to MIT. He couldn't cut it and spent the rest of his life working in a bicycle shop. You can find out which will be good for you so - do it.

MIT is clearly in a league of its own.

Purdue is also very strong in Aerospace Engineering and PSU is not bad either.

I am not sure how the other schools measure up and I would be very surprised if Cooper Union even offered a concentration in Aerospace Engineering.

So, in terms of AE, I would rank them as follows:

MIT
Purdue
Penn State
The rest

Yeah, Alexandre is right on.

Going by USNews rankings for Aerospace rankings:

1- MIT

4- Purdue

10-15- Penn State University Park

The Rest

MIT
Penn State
Purdue
Rutgers
.....

Maybe rogracer will chime in here, but I wonder if it's really important to have an aerospace major at undergrad level. My college had it as a graduate specialty concentration within mechanical engineering. It could be that if you major in mechanical engineering at some of these places you can get into aerospace, if the relevant companies recruit at your school. If you find out what the top companies are you can ask the schools, or the companies for that matter, if they recruit there.
