Rate/comment on the Princeton Review SAT II Bio prep book?

Is the PR SAT II Bio a good prep book? I heard from some people that it's too hard, some say it's too easy, some say it's the best out there-what is your opinion?

I'm doing Bio M and the PR book is good so far, so I was wondering if the material in the book is like that on the actual test and if it's a good prep book. Thank you

The tests in there are insane…!
But I think the prep material should be pretty good…

i see… thanks! anymore comments/suggestions from other ppl? i want to get an overall sense of how good it is

I’m studying for Bio as well, and from the research I’ve done here, it seems that PR and Barron’s are the best prep books for Bio. There are also some AP review books that are useful, but I’m not looking into those since I’m not taking or ever will take AP Bio.

I only have about 40 pages left to read for the PR book, and it has been a relatively easy read so far. I plan to go through it again and spend some time memorizing whatever I need to, and then take the practice tests.

I’m in the same position i am taking the Bio Sat 2 bio test this October and I have read PR, Kaplan, and Barron’s…

PR–> Good for the basic understanding of biology
Kaplan–> Very disorganized I personally thought the info was soooo out of place
Barron’s–> WOWOOWOW I love love love this book and it’s not HARD like everyone says its informative and I believe it game me an even better understanding of certain Biology topics

^I found Kaplan very disorganized too. And it has A LOT A LOT of info, way more than Barron’s. I’m sticking with Barron’s but I was worried if I wasn’t missing out on important information from Kaplan. I’m doing IB SL-Biology and the syllabus is less than the SAT Bio so I wouldn’t have that “back up” if I missed something out on the SAT Subject Test. And I’m really looking at an 800 :)

I prefer Cliffsnote AP Biology to study for SAT II Bio.

However, PR is excellent! I used both and although I preferred Cliffs, PR was definitely helpful as well. Their Ptests were very nice :)

ooh, now I’m kind of iffy about the PR book seeing as how learningisliving said barron’s was the best :S I just heard that barron’s was much harder and had more info than necessary, so I bought the PR.

I would go through PR first if I were you. I borrowed PR from my cousin, but plan to buy Barron’s once I get through it twice.

I just finished reading the PR one and when I took a practice test my score went up 50 points (650 to a 700), but now I’m starting to read the cliffnotes ones and it has more thorough information that the PR doesnt have. Even though the Cliffnotes sometimes gets too specific, you can just skip those parts and save a lot of time. The cliffnotes has answers to questions on the SAT that the princeton cant.

Overall, the PR WILL prepare you, but if you want 700-800 I would say study the Cliffnotes. Good Luck.

Cliffs.
10 characters.

for cliffs notes, do u guys mean the AP prep book for biology?

Both. It is really thorough, organized, and not overly detailed.

I agree…

If you can read PR first it will be WAY easier to go through the Barron’s book because you will have a stronger grasp of the concepts!!!

Good luck everyone!!!

Also what is your opinion on the Spark Notes practice SAT 2 bio tests???

I think PR is comprehensive and the diagrams are useful.
I just didn’t completely understand the bit about Krebs cycle & PDC… THAT was confusing! However, I like all the other parts so far and I really like the mini quizzes they give at the end of each section.

hey neekzg, when are you going to take your bio test (or when did you take it)? I’m doing it tomorrow. Are you doing E or M?
